How old was your child when they grew out of playing with toy kitchens and play food?

I was thinking of putting ours away now or gifting it to younger cousins but I don’t want to if there’s still life in it!

I’ve been wondering this too. DS(5) still very occasionally plays with his, but when I suggest giving it away he objects like he does with almost all toys. Yet, he probably plays with it briefly once a month and it’s taking up space in the conservatory.

Ours never got into it at all so it just ended up going to the charity shop.

Finally gave ours to a friend this year, our two are 6 and 9. They still played with it occasionally, but the time was right and they weren’t too sad.

my 11 year old plays more with it than the 3 year old

I had big age gaps between mine and so I think toys got played with for longer because the older ones would play with the younger ones. I think the youngest was 7 or 8 when we gave the kitchen away.

My eldest is 8 and still does occasionally but mainly just the play food . I don’t think she’d care if we got rid of it but still have a 4 year old .

About 6, but mainly due to height and the real kitchen being more appealing to play in. We had an old battered one in the playhouse outside and that lasted till about 8.

toomuchfaster · 22/02/2020 20:29

We've kept the food, but the kitchen went at 5 as DD was too tall for it.

Stompythedinosaur · 22/02/2020 20:32

My 8yo still occasionally plays with it, and it is quite popular with her friends when they come round.

I had expected it would have gone by now!

RabbitBeaver · 22/02/2020 20:41

My 8 year old still plays with his and his younger cousins love it.

happypotamus · 22/02/2020 20:59

At 5 and 8 they rarely played with it but wouldn't agree to getting rid of it, so we compromised and put it outside in the playhouse. It made space for the Sylvanian Family houses/ shops etc. DC1 got it for her second birthday and it was played with daily for about 5 years so it did well.
