Hi, I’ve taken ovex for threadworms (which made me physically throw up dead worms - uck!) but I was wondering how you know when the worms have fully departed Confused aside from seeing them in your stool?

Sorry I know it’s an icky topic! First (and hopefully last!!) time for me x

You should not have threadworms in your vomit, you need to go to the GP as this might be roundworm and needs different treatment.

mindutopia · 22/02/2020 06:46

You definitely need to see a doctor. Threadworms live in the intestine, the very lower end by the bum. They definitely don’t live in the stomach as pp said. You need to be seen by someone who can diagnose and treat this properly. Ovex does cause nausea and digestive discomfort though.

mindutopia · 22/02/2020 06:47

Answer to your question though for threadworms is you have to take a second treatment 2 after the first. When your bum stops itching they’re likely gone though.

Worms in your sick?!

That must be a very severe infestation for them to be that high up your digestive system?

feliciabirthgiver · 22/02/2020 08:26

Are you sure you haven't eaten anything with rice in it?

mindutopia · 22/02/2020 11:12

Have you travelled recently or spent time around someone who has been travelling?

Hoik · 22/02/2020 11:26

Worms in your sick needs to be checked out by a doctor.

As for side effects from Ovex, I felt like I'd been poisoned. Nausea, stomach cramps, loose stools, as a diagnosed emetophobe it was awful and triggered off anxiety attacks. I didn't even have worms, DS had them but the pharmacist said to treat the whole family. When it came to taking the second dose two weeks later I skipped it and just gave it to the DC.

Hey , LOs 2nd time with threadworm last was 6 months ago😞 it really makes me miserable even though I know how common they are .now! It’s turning me into a total lunatic with my anxiety. Found a worm on LOs butt after saying itchy. Whole family took Ovex same night. But not seen any come out in stool at all and it’s been 8 days symptoms have stopped no itch but said she felt a tickle last night don’t know if it paranoia or not with every feeling down there?! Do you always see them dead in stool or do they disintegrate Unnoticed? Totally confused 🤷‍♀️

Children showed signs of this. Whole family took the 2 doses 2 weeks apart. Washed sheets and jammies daily during this time. Seems to have worked. Mild stomach aches with 6 year old, though. Kids didn't like the taste of the tablet so we held their nose while they chewed it - topeuro-shop.com/mebendazole-uk.html

Know this is an old thread, but our family all took Ovex a week ago and for the last couple of days I've been feeling awful - tummy pains, nausea, tired, windy and indigestion. Is this normal with Ovex? Thought after a week it would have been out my system by now. Really not looking forward to taking the second dose next week.

ClearSky456 · 25/03/2024 13:59

Bumping for the afternoon crowd!

MadMother37 · 15/04/2024 08:47

We all took Ovex on Friday and I feel like I've been poisoned. I had no worm symptoms but the kids did. I've had a massive bloated stomach all weekend and feel hideously tired and nauseous. The cramps are another level! Really hope it didn't last long for you. The kids and OH are fine, no ill effects at all.

ClearSky456 · 15/04/2024 12:12

Oh no, you have my sympathies! I was exactly the same - nausea and bad tummy pains. I ended up going to the GP for anti-cramping medication, it was so bad. Started about three days after I took the Ovex and lasted about 4 days. On the plus side, the second time I took the Ovex (was told to give everyone a second dose a fortnight later) I was totally fine.

No one else in my family had any symptoms either!

Hope you feel better soon x
