Exercise recommendations please.
I'm over fifty, overweight, have dodgy knees and hate classes.
I go to yoga and can speedwalk/jog locally.
I want to tone up and improve cardio health.

Add in Pilates, and lift weights.

The most important thing is to find something you enjoy - you won't keep anything else up. So trawl you're area for different classes or activities and give them all a go.

See what sticks.

Swimming! And make sure you don’t eat the calories you have burnt off.

Should have said I don't swim, but please keep the ideas coming.
Diet is the next thing to fix.

Would you consider a few sessions with a personal trainer? They'll work you harder than you're likely to work yourself, plus can give you nutrition/diet tips and exercising to do in between. I find having to be accountable makes an enormous difference - if I don't do enough exercise in between sessions, I'm wasting both our time (and my money!), plus it makes my sessions so much harder.

I find I quite like circuits-type work as a result of my PT sessions, so I go to a circuits class weekly, but sometimes also do some alone at home.

You could also consider couch to 5k?

I have to say, having someone to do it all with is another excellent idea - I'm much less likely to miss a circuits class when I know I'm giving a lift that night!

I'd get a few exercise DVDs like Jillian Michaels and chop and change them or an exercise bike in front of TV.

Thanks for all the ideas here. All going to look into a couple of dvds, and check out PTs locally. I used to have one years ago and did enjoy circuit training.
Pilates - yes, I will check that out too.
Appreciate all the feedback I have had here.
