Burning, bruised type pain in knuckles...

So over the last few months, on the outside of the knuckles of both my index fingers, a sort of burning, bruised pain has developed.
It doesn't hurt all the time, but if they are knocked or rubbed they are really sore.
Don't know whether I should bother the GP or give it another few months to see if it'll ease off a bit.
Does anyone else have or have had this? I am 45 if that makes a difference.
Pic is attached...the pain is mainly the outer edge of the knuckle but if I press the inner side it's also sore, just not as bad if thay makes sense!

I would see your gp it sounds like arthritis, or I should say how mine started

That's how my osteoarthritis started too- index fingers , top joint. Worth checking out, but you may need to be assertive , plus do your own research. My doc just said "We're really only concerned about rheumatoid arthritis " and sent me on my way.

I agree with the others, it sounds like arthritis.
See your doctor and they'll probably do a blood test to test for inflammatory markers. Mine came back negative and so was described as osteoarthritis and not rheumatoid.

I was given exercises to do, which was basically buying a rubbery ball to squeeze.

Thanks. I think that's what I was thinking it might be in the back of my head. Is there anything, other than squeezing rubbery balls!, that makes it go away or is that it..... sore forever Sad

Unfortunately it's just exercise and painkillers/topical ointments. No cure I'm afraid.

I do take a high strength turmeric supplement which seems to make a bit of a difference.

Thank you. I have done some reading up on osteoarthritis and it does sound as though this could be what it is. Ah well. Thanks Smile
