shower diverter stuck, can anyone help?!

The little nozzle that switches between shower and bath has suddenly stopped moving properly it only budges a little bit side to side so the water doesn’t fully flow through either! It was fine and then it wasn’t.
I can’t see an obvious way to unscrew it, can anyone advise?

You need @PigletJohn really

Violetroselily · 20/02/2020 19:52

Whilst we wait for @pigletjohn , have you tried WD40?

HalfSizeMe · 20/02/2020 19:53

I'd try limescale remover

I’ve put some viakal on it to see if that helped but it didn’t do much. Didn’t think of wd40 I’ll try that! Thanks!

sorry I don't know. It may have come apart inside or it may be jammed with limescale.

Taps are purposely made watertight so putting chemicals on the outside is unlikely to get in.

I think it needs taking apart with a set of spanners. Unless it is made by a major British brand spare parts are probably unavailable, but if you get it apart you can try Lunns.

If anybody you know and trust can recommend a plumber, try that. A wrinkly old one who doesn't like carrying iron baths upstairs will be suitable.

Websites carrying advertisements that the trader pays for are not personal recommendations, even if the website name suggests otherwise.

If you need to buy a new one, Bristan are good taps and parts are available. You may find an exploded diagram on the parts page showing how to take it apart.

they are often cheaper on ebay or suppliers such as Plumbworld.

it's the diverter valve, I expect

I believe the OP is currently at a wedding (based on another of her threads).

Man I’ve spent way too long on Mumsnet today.
