Not often, I'd say when things need freshing up.
The house was totally magnolia when we bought it 7 years ago and we've decorated it over that time. I can't see it being redecorated before we move in the next couple of years.

Wow so about 10 years then

In the 15 years we have been here ours and dds bedroom have been decorated once, DS room twice, bathroom and kitchen twice and the living room and hallway about 3 times. Only decorate if it looks bad, wallpapers coming off or someones drawn on it lol

ParkheadParadise · 20/02/2020 18:23

Living rooms, hallway, staircase every 2yrs. It's all white and a nightmare to keep it looking white.

Bedrooms when I decide to change the colour scheme, dd's bedroom was done last year when she moved from the nursery to her own bigger room.
Our bedroom was redecorated about 3yrs ago.
I'm lucky as DH owns a house building company and I can use the same company he has to design the show homes to decorate ours when needed.

About every 3 years. Looks so much better when it's fresh.

ColourMyDreams · 20/02/2020 19:05

Downstairs rooms and staircase, annually.
Bedrooms once every couple of years.
All white so gets grubby.

Between 6-15 years depending on how bloody awkward the space is, how much the room is used, and if I want a change.

The hall, stairs and landing really need doing but are awkward so it will be later in the year when the kids can stay with the GPs.
DH did DC1's new room this week (first time in 15 years, as it was the spare), and the kitchen will be done next.

cushioncovers · 20/02/2020 20:36

Only done one room in the last 10 years. Not by choice, just haven't had any spare money. Moving soon though so will hopefully have a bit spare to do a bit of diy

daisypond · 20/02/2020 20:38

10 years maybe.

Pipandmum · 20/02/2020 20:43

Repaint every four - five years. Put new carpets in bedrooms after six years - and they have seen the most changes as the kids have grown up and moved rooms. New bed linens every couple years. I put in new kitchen and bathrooms when I moved in so do not expect to replace them (lived here 8 years will be leaving in a year).
I have replaced a couple rugs, bought and moved around a few paintings, but that's it. I will be replacing some furniture when I move.

gaffamate · 20/02/2020 20:52

10 years, making sure all paint allows for a degree of cleaning/wiping.

TheSandman · 20/02/2020 20:57

I painted the living room when I moved into the house - that was 30 years ago. Rest of the house 20 years ago after we gutted it and rebuilt the interior. Touched up bits that got bashed or suffered from water damage from time to time but no plans to redecorate. Ever.

TheSandman · 20/02/2020 21:01

Mind you we have so many bookcases, floor to ceiling shelves full of DVDs and CDs, and pictures hanging that there's hardly any wall left showing anyway.

zebrapig · 20/02/2020 21:09

Lived in our old house 10 years. We started with bare plaster all through. Master bedroom was done once, spare room twice, study twice, bathroom three times. Kitchen twice (second time due to flood from bathroom), lounge once but re-did feature wall and hallway once. I'm not one to change it often!

Haggisfish · 20/02/2020 21:10

5-7 years here.

ChanklyBore · 20/02/2020 21:13

Never stop decorating. Something is always being decorated, or it feels like it.

I suppose it depends what you mean by decorating. Just putting a fresh coat of paint on, or taking everything out, wallpaper stripping, plastering, new furniture, new flooring, new features like new fireplaces or built in storage, wardrobes, shelving etc?

Moved in to current place six years ago. Kitchen and bathroom have both been taken out, and entirely redone, back to plaster in the kitchen and back to bare brick in the bathroom, they have each had new floors and tiles. Both have had had a coat of fresh paint since then. Utility has been taken back to brick and redone, and that’s been painted again too. The hallway has had two makeovers, the first one was temporary as we didn’t have much cash, it’s been done again since. Living room got a fresh coat of paint when we moved in but only as a temporary fix, then later we did it properly with new built in furniture and new log burner, so that’s been decorated four times technically since we moved in, although the last one was only a touch up. Dining room has been done twice, conservatory got new floor and paint. Kids rooms get done every few years so each of theirs has been done twice here so far. One was replastered on the second go around. We have done the spare room once.

I’m thinking we have been “decorating” something or other on at least twenty occasions since we moved in six years ago. Can’t see us stopping as it’s like painting the forth bridge.
