No I don't want Amazon Prime. I don't want to try it and then cancel.

I hate the hard sell.

Yes I am sure lots of you really love it. I do not have internet at home, or any money to waste paying for this each month just for free postage or whatever. Pisses me off big time when I do an order - I avoid those with free prime mentioned - and when I go to pay there are several lines of "We have given you a free 30 day trial" etc etc. If I wanted one I would apply for one. Feckers.

I know I could cancel but what is the betting they would take no notice. Really fed up of ordering from them now.

Don't have it then Confused. Not sure what you're on about OP, you don't get an automatic free trial, they offer you one and you can choose to accept or not. You can also cancel by literally clicking a button, so no idea why you imagine they would 'take no notice'.

The products on amazon are only eligible for prime delivery IF you have prime and it applies to almost all of them unless they are from a third party seller. Otherwise you just pay delivery.

A banner on a page and an ad at checkout that you can just ignore and a cancellation process that couldn't be made any easier if it tried, should you -is hardly the 'hard sell'.

Cancel the free trial and pay the delivery if you prefer,or simply don't shop with them.

BearSoFair · 20/02/2020 13:53

But you don't have to take the free trial...there's always an option not to accept it and have the normal delivery fee/longer delivery time.

Charlottejbt · 20/02/2020 13:56

I'm with you, OP. They hide Prime buttons all over the site so people click them by mistake, then make it difficult to unsubscribe. I'm sure getting rid of it was about a 20 minute job last time it happened.

I have nothing against people choosing Prime, but tricking shoppers into it is scummy.

Thanks I am glad it is not just me! I do NOT click on it - it comes up. Bastards!

I wonder if it's harder to avoid on a tablet or phone than it would be on a laptop or desktop?

Sux2buthen · 20/02/2020 14:22

I'm glad you agree with yourself Grin I find I'm usually right too

Juliette20 · 20/02/2020 14:24

Instead of moaning on here, put a complaint in to Amazon customer services and stop using them.

ritzbiscuits · 20/02/2020 14:28

Wouldn't surprise me if at some point you'll need to be on Prime to shop with them. That's Bezos ultimate goal to get everyone on Prime.

I'd imagine they'll eventually degrade the standard service over time to push you over the edge.

They're trying to get into all sorts of new industries, financial services, grocery stores, this is probably nothing at the moment!

partofthepeanutgallery · 20/02/2020 14:28

I hate it, too... especially having to go through the 'why not sign up' page every time I want to buy something, and the 'no' button is in tiny print and not where you'd normally expect it.

Juliette20 · 20/02/2020 14:31

I'll tell you what is a pain to cancel though - a free trial for The Times. I only signed up (dead easy, online) because I wanted to read an article for work, duly noted the cancellation date and phoned them (yes, you have to phone) before the trial ended. Ten minutes on hold then a series of questions from some jumped up patronising little twerp about your media consumption habits before they finally agree to let you go. Twats.

If it were up to me I'd make an addition to consumer rights legislation that for any free trial they have to remind you that the trial period is to end and that you will be charged, and that ending the trial should be done in the same manner as you sign up. So if you can sign up with a couple of clicks online then you can end the trial in the same way.

HaudMaDug · 20/02/2020 14:33

Can't say I've ever had the hard sell or found prime buttons all over the site to accidently click on. Just read the screen. 'I don't want to try prime' is the opt out option available when the Prime screen pops up.

Lordfrontpaw · 20/02/2020 14:34

Do it then cancel it the next day - it just runs down until the end then (and you won’t forget later and end up paying for months before you realise)

katy1213 · 20/02/2020 14:36

I agree - I've inadvertently signed up three times because it's so easy to click the wrong thing as you're trying to pay. Don't want it - will never want it.

Lordfrontpaw · 20/02/2020 14:38

It been handy for me because I went through a spate of needing to order things quickly (so free delivery same/next day) and sometimes you get a discount if you have Prime. I’ve never used the ‘benefits’ (films?).

PhoneLock · 20/02/2020 14:41

Sock puppeting fail!

bluebell34567 · 20/02/2020 14:47

agree so much op.

WitchQueenofDarkness · 20/02/2020 15:19

I stopped using Amazon entirely middle of last year.

I use it to find products then hunt for them on another site. So far I haven't had to spend a penny with them since

I'm sure they haven't noticed at all but I feel better

Lordfrontpaw · 20/02/2020 15:21

Who’s a puppet?

safariboot · 20/02/2020 15:25

I signed up to the trial by mistake. Because Amazon have designed their website that way. Loads of web and software designers do that. There's a choice they want you to take, maybe it's signing up to something, maybe it means letting them sell your personal information to all and sundry, and that's made highly visible and placed in the natural place to click. The choice they don't want you to take is faded out and made much less prominent.

It pissed me off, and is one reason I now treat Amazon as my shop of last resort.

Lordfrontpaw · 20/02/2020 15:29

We’ve all signed up by mistake! It’s that pesky grey button that looks like a ‘no thanks’ one but it’s actually ‘yes sign me up please’.

I dot in and out around Christmas of when there are loads of family birthdays for the free/fast deliveries.

picklesdragonisawelshdragon · 20/02/2020 15:45

It's hard to check out without signing up, and also hard to find the free post button when the paid post is the default. I have to work quite hard at checking out these days.

Lordfrontpaw · 20/02/2020 15:46

Especially when you are in a hurry or using a small screen. They aren’t daft!

StylishMummy · 20/02/2020 15:47

Sock puppet fail Grin

Juliette20 · 20/02/2020 15:50

Or just quote fail?
