No I don't want Amazon Prime. I don't want to try it and then cancel.

I hate the hard sell.

Yes I am sure lots of you really love it. I do not have internet at home, or any money to waste paying for this each month just for free postage or whatever. Pisses me off big time when I do an order - I avoid those with free prime mentioned - and when I go to pay there are several lines of "We have given you a free 30 day trial" etc etc. If I wanted one I would apply for one. Feckers.

I know I could cancel but what is the betting they would take no notice. Really fed up of ordering from them now.

I signed up for the free trial in December because they were showing some football on prime tv. Because it was December I used it a lot for shopping, but I can’t see how it’s worth the money the rest of the year. If they’re selling something with free delivery on prime, and you scroll down and look at the other buying options, there’s usually someone selling it for the same price with free delivery.

I find you have to be really careful when you buy a kindle book, as a couple of times I’ve inadvertently added audible narration for £3.99, only I don’t think I actually did? Both times I rang up and they removed it, but I bet loads of people don’t notice.

UnitedRoad · 20/02/2020 16:01

Yes yes yes @picklesdragonisawelshdragon - you make sure you’ve got £20 worth of eligible items in your basket to get free delivery, and then they make you hunt down the free delivery box to tick. Bastards

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 20/02/2020 16:21

I'll tell you what is a pain to cancel though - a free trial for The Times.

Yes!!! I’ve been through this and it’s such a pain. Outrageous that you have to phone them to cancel.

No - software trials are a bloody nightmare! I end up trialling several for work before buying subs and always end up arguing that they took money out before the end of the trial.

Whynotnowbaby · 20/02/2020 16:28

Why do people keep say op is sockpuppeting? She just quoted what someone said before (admittedly it wasn’t very clear that it was a quote) and agreed with the quote.

bigbluebus · 20/02/2020 16:38

I agree with you OP. I don't order from Amazon very often but it just so happens that I needed to order something from the this morning. Not being accustomed to the site it took me a few seconds to locate the option to check out without signing up to the free Prime trial. It was in much lighter print than the other options and on the left instead of on the right where the other options were. The item I was buying was only £11 and had free delivery anyway so Prime wouldn't have saved me anything.

Deathraystare · 20/02/2020 18:18

Oh is that what I am doing? Sock puppeting? Well everyone should have a hobby! Wish I still had my 'Lamb Chop' hand puppet.....

Lordfrontpaw · 20/02/2020 18:20

My sister used the scare the bejesus out of me making a laaaaaaaammmb chop out of my dads big willy sport sock.

Lordfrontpaw · 20/02/2020 18:20

Woolly wooooollllyyyyyy. Blush

NightsOfCabiria · 20/02/2020 18:25

Grin great auto-correct!

beachcomber70 · 20/02/2020 19:48

I just don't shop with Amazon any more. I despise sly marketing tricks, and how difficult it is to navigate out of 'free' trials etc.
They lose a customer as I go somewhere else.

Returning faulty goods is another minefield. I shopped with Mailshop [Daily Mail shop] once and they were a nightmare to contact and respond when a product was rubbish. So I will never use them again.

TheBigFatMermaid · 20/02/2020 20:06

I love it. But, if I didn't, I wouldn't use it.

I let my friend order on mine.

SilverySurfer · 20/02/2020 20:16

Sux2buthen
I'm glad you agree with yourself grin I find I'm usually right too

Brilliant isn't it - do you remember the thread by an OP called Ecco or similar who posted asking about a buggy - three years later she responded to her old thread recommending the buggy Grin

AvocadoOwl · 20/02/2020 20:31

Totally with you re The Times @Juliette20! I took out a cheap 3 month deal and then saw £27ish come out of my PayPal account (because I forgot to cancel it at the end of the deal) so I just took it on the chin and cancelled the recurring PayPal payment. I then get an arsey phone call from them a few weeks later saying I owed the payment they couldn't collect AND the next month as I had to give a months notice!!! Shock

They wouldn't let me cancel it over the phone with the guy who rang to chase for money and said someone else would have to call me. They gave up and wrote the 'debt' off in the end.

I miss my Times subscription but I didn't use it nearly enough to pay that much every month!

Sorry OP, slight hijack there. Prime works out to be brilliant value here on saved postage and TV use but if you aren't going to benefit then I can imagine the constant pitch is annoying.

Electrical · 20/02/2020 22:35

That was just the OP failing to bold the poster she was quoting though, she added her own agreement to the end of the not-bolded quote, it wasn’t sock puppeting.

BarbarAnna · 20/02/2020 22:43

Not the point of the thread but to those saying why would you have it. It is worth it if you frequently order from Amazon and need things when it is convenient to you, use the books on Kindle, use the music on you devices, use it to store all your photos in the cloud and use it to watch TV.

I cried with laughter at the thread where the posted replied to her own posts. I was literally sobbing but when I finally managed to tell DH what I was crying about, he just looked at me like I was nuts.

Juliette20 · 21/02/2020 06:32

Exactly, @Electrical. People are very quick to cry "sock puppet".

StealthPolarBear · 21/02/2020 06:42

Op was quoting!
We have and love prime but my mum has done exactly what you did and struggled to cancel. It caused her a lot of stress

Deathraystare · 21/02/2020 06:49

Exactly, @Electrical. People are very quick to cry "sock puppet".

Tbh I cannot bold the quote. I have tried Ok now I am a "Failing to bold the quotes Sockpuppet"!

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 21/02/2020 07:10

Ia that really you op? ;)

Deathraystare · 21/02/2020 07:14

Huh? Yes it is me. I have looked in the mirror and it is indeed me. Why??

OP posts:
coconuttelegraph · 21/02/2020 07:44

Well don't the posters falling over themselves to cry troll look stupid, you hardly have to have high reading skills to see that she was quoting a previous post.

StealthPolarBear · 21/02/2020 08:12

Just trying to be funny... Clearly failing :)

Lordfrontpaw · 21/02/2020 08:14

(And you can’t say ‘Tr**l’ without getting a deletion).

coconuttelegraph · 21/02/2020 08:35

You can say troll, you just can't call trollSmile

I actually hadn't seen your comment, stealth it was the ones above I'd read
