Me and my mum were making my sister a birthday cake yesterday and we found some yellow food colouring that went out of date in the year 2000!!! So it was 20 years out of date. Definitely a record for me.... anyone else found similar?

I found some lasagna sheets my mum had given me to take to university in 1998. They had also followed me during 4 subsequent house moves!

My mum still has some food colouring pots that she had when I was a child. They don’t have dates on but she has had them since the 70s. They must be 40 years old!!! Hopefully she won’t be using them.

I have some brown sugar crystals that I got in a shop I worked in...when I was 15. I’m 45 now. I use them for coffee sometimes lol.

Jelly diamonds. From Safeway. 1988 Grin

I had cornflour dated 2011 or something, in my cupboard, I've only finished it recently as I only use a teaspoon occasionally to thicken gravy. It was fine.

Food colouring from 1971 and a small bottle of whisky from 1966

Food colouring is always a good one. My favourite yesterday was my mum threw the 20 year out of date yellow food colouring in the bin and found another that had gone out of date in 2015 and was like " great! We can use this!" Took a while for the penny to drop that it was 5 years out of date! BlushGrin

Mil moved to this country in 1980, she’s still got some dried herbs she brought with her

andpeggy1 · 20/02/2020 08:14

A tin of sharwoods chinese 5 spice from 1987. It survived a house move and 2 kitchen renovations in that time!

HappydaysArehere · 20/02/2020 08:18

I keep finding things such as tinned stuff that is out of date.and am wondering how long before it is unfit to consume. I am thinking perhaps a year!

SallyOMalley · 20/02/2020 08:18

Throughout my childhood, my grandparents had a couple of bottles of spirits bought in the NAAFI shop on Germany in the early 1960s. We finally got rid of them after my gpa passed away in 2009. They were always there on the sideboard - I felt stupidly tearful when we cleared them away Sad

Notquiteagandt · 20/02/2020 09:00

When my grandma died and we cleared her house out. We found some asprins in her pill box that went out of date in 1950 something. They where in a glass bottle and everything.

Chocolatecake12 · 20/02/2020 09:06

My pot of vicks vaporub has 1993 on it!
I’ve probably got food colouring that’s well out of date.....off to have a look!

TeapotCollection · 20/02/2020 09:08

We ate a tin of custard a couple of years ago and then noticed it had 2008 on. We both survived 😃

FlamingoAndJohn · 20/02/2020 09:10

I think my mother has some food colouring that has the price of 7 1/2p on it.

She is the queen of out of date food. She has stacks of food in the house and there is only two of them. She buys something that looks interesting and then forgets about it.

HulksPurplePanties · 20/02/2020 09:12

In 2009 we found a box of cream of wheat from 1982 in my Grandmother's cupboard.

Mumdiva99 · 20/02/2020 09:13

I can't compare with you at the moment. But I do have half a jar of tahini which has been open about 9 years and I keep thinking I must throw away....but it looks fine so I don't!

TooMinty · 20/02/2020 09:15

When my granny died in the early 90s we found a tin of fruit in her cupboard that was best before 1945...

Did they even put best before dates on stuff then?

We went to se an elderly aunt recently. Her freezer had packed up so she'd bought a new one and had to throw some food away.

She said she'd thrown away some strawberries that she'd picked in 1978 Shock

I asked whether she was curious to try them and see what they were like. She said she 'didn't really care for strawberries' Smile

Reminds me of this Friday night dinner episode Grin

Ken1976 · 20/02/2020 11:44

I have a bottle of Pernod that was bought for me as a silver wedding present in 1997

Hoppinggreen · 20/02/2020 12:06

If we are including alcohol DH inherited a bottle of unopened schnapps that his Grandma brought as a present from Austria for Grandads family when she came here in 1946
We’ve still got it and the company that made it still exists
