Passport renewal

Little brother doesn't have photo id. I asked what had happened to previous out of date passport.

He put it in the bin. It's not lost or stolen. I despair of him sometimes, I really do.

Given that it's not lost or stolen does that mean he pays the £85 or just £75.

Can't imagine passport office would be thrilled he's binning their fine creations though. I'll check with them later, wondered if anyone knew.

I'd say that counts as 'lost' seeing as you're meant to return your old passport when requesting a renewal.

Don't even get me started on his drivers licence. He probably made an aeroplane out of it and sent it to the next kerb

Just spoke to passport office, they said I was like Monty Python. Every time they tried to say it was lost or stolen I said ''No it's not. He's autistic and just thought it didn't work anymore." It's true it's not lost

Do you know where it is right now? No.

Do you know how it got lost? Yes. It went in the bin. But you don't know exactly where it is located now, after the bin was emptied, ergo, lost.

It is lost. You don’t know where it is, you are not going to find it again, and it’s not be stolen.

A renewal is a renewal whether you have the passport or not. Why would you need to pay an extra £10?

It’s a slightly different process if you don’t have the old passport to return.

Bee. A question while you're here, if I may (sorry OP, I have nothing to add to your question, but I would tell them it is lost, if that makes things easier/cheaper?).

Is there any use for the old passport that they send back with the corners clipped once you have the new ones? We've had our new passports for about 4 years and still have the old ones because I don't know if they'll ever be useful, eg make it cheaper or easier to get replacement passports should our current ones get lost or stolen?

I don't get why people feel the need to tell office workers their whole life story - just work out what you need to say that's going to get you to where you want to be quickest (as long as it's within the boundaries of the law).

Regard it as lost. You need to report it lost and the do a renewal. It's the same price whatever you do.

technically it is lost because he can't send it back.
why is a passport more expensive if it lost? I don't remember paying more to replace my lost passport.

It's not more expensive if lost. Its £75ish to apply online and £85ish to use a paper form

just say its lost does it matter you wont be able to do it online i dont think because you dont have the old one
