I want to stop coughing

It is stopping me sleeping and my dd with asd is getting really aggressive with me and told me repeatedly to fucking die. And that I am being selfish 🙄😕🙁

Kids kindly gave it to me last week. I think it has been doing the rounds recently. Lots of kids at school have had it.

I have tried everything I can. Currently trying to suppress it so kids can sleep, by holding it in, drinking weak squash and sucking on lozengers.

Have put vicks on feet and i am sitting in bed with extra pillows. Have taken meds also.

I receive the verbal aggression from her even if i pop to kitchen to get more fluid. Have been making two drinks at a time.

No honey or lemon in house. Cant put kettle on. Will be too noisy.

Arrrgh!

Can you cough into the pillow?

RoseMartha · 18/02/2020 01:01

Did cough into a jumper which muffled it a bit. (Said jumper will be going in the wash).

Unfortunately i only have to breathe for her to tell me i am making too much noise. Sensory issues are very bad. And she will not wear ear defenders because says too uncomfortable.

Hoping if I drop off to sleep i wont be coughing in my sleep!

Get Simple Linctus from the chemist. I had it prescribed last week from GP as I am pregnant to help. It temporarily removes the sensation and urge to cough. Works a treat even if just for a little while.

@cannotmakemymindup that sounds perfect thank you will get some.

Hope you are feeling better .

I had a cough over Christmas. Turned out to be a throat infection, event hough my throat wasn't especially sore. Day nurse was the only thing that helped stop the cough. Hope you feel better soon.

MitziK · 18/02/2020 08:43

How about you put the ear defenders on?

That way, you don't have to hear her.

GEEpEe · 18/02/2020 08:44

Yep take a cough medicine at night but not in the day.

TheGirlFromStoryville · 18/02/2020 08:47

Robitussin is the only cough med I've found that works. Tastes disgusting though!

RoseMartha · 18/02/2020 09:13

@MitziK love your suggestion 🙂😀

Thank you everyone. Will head to chemist today for different meds. Some good suggestions. Thank you

Asd should not equal aggression and bad language? Explain nicely that you can't help it and she needs to help herself by using ear defenders and practice good hygiene when she has a cold by washing her hands

I had the ‘100 day cough’ last year (at least that is what it was being called round our way!) and went to the GP finally as it was causing lack of sleep for everyone! Felt a bit stupid saying I had come to see her for a cough but when I told her how long it had been going on for and that I couldn’t sleep, her eyebrows shot off the top of her head which made me feel less of a fool! Lack of sleep is pretty bad - if you say that to the receptionists they are really sympathetic & try to get you seen. Anyhoo, the GP gave me a steroid inhaler as she said that my throat had become inflamed with the cough which set up a vicious circle of coughing because it was irritated and being irritated because I was coughing. I think - go and see your GP.

You need to get something to actually help you clear your chest and make your cough more productive. Benylin Mucus Cough Syrup works, it has Guaifenesin in it which thins and loosens the mucus.

If you are blocked up too put the Vicks on your chest or some olbas oil on a handkerchief so you can inhale it.

Steam will really help, and actually hot drinks too.

Your daughter needs to accept the noise of the kettle if she wants you to stop coughing. If it is that bad she can use ear plugs. There are different types available if the ones she has are uncomfortable.

Good luck I have an awful cough at the moment. It was so bad I vomited yesterday 😫

Nat6999 · 18/02/2020 10:04

Night nurse is a life saver with nightime coughs, I'm suffering at the moment & it is the only thing to stop me coughing all night.

RoseMartha · 20/02/2020 23:59

Thank you. I am still coughing even with night nurse. And not drowsy or asleep. Sinus pain is pretty bad too on my face.

Yes I have explained to her that I am not doing it on purpose! Apparently it is ruining her life as she cant sleep. More swearing and aggression from her going on. Which I have said is not acceptable and if she had not repeatedly coughed over me when she had it, i might have escaped it. She also wished it on me when she had it.

My drs are notorious for not being interested unless it has been going on for about three weeks. 😕

Will have to suffer it out until Monday I think and then call them if no better.
