What to buy from USA

berkshirecat · 17/02/2020 17:41

I'm very excited as about to go to the USA for 2 weeks. I haven't been for quite a few years!

I love nothing more than nosing around supermarkets and shops and buying stuff we can't get here in the UK. So help me: what are your USA must buys?!

I always stock up on the neon blue Tylenol cold and flu medicine. It knocks me right out so I can actually sleep when I have a cold. I only have half a bottle left from my last haul Sad

berkshirecat · 17/02/2020 19:44

@lljkk I'd love to know! I'm sure I wouldn't Smile

Neosporin antibiotic cream. Fab for cuts, burns, grazes. It also has anaesthetic properties

Yellredder · 17/02/2020 19:51

LittleMissMatched socks.

dudsville · 17/02/2020 19:58

Ooh, I'm placemarking for my next trip! When are you going? I crave the bath and beyond shower gels, the herbal ones. I'm tired of smelling like peonies and honey and I've read about these.

NotTheMrMenAgain · 17/02/2020 20:02

Go to Walgreens pharmacy and buy pretty much everything! The Burt's Bees range is so much cheaper there. I used to get a tube of Walgreens antibiotic ointment for cuts (because DGM would often bang herself and it prevented them going nasty). Also they used to do packs of cute bug-shaped stick on thermometers for kids - great for sticking on DD's temple when she was small and ill. They sort of change colour depending on temperature so if it shoots up you can easily see. And then buy as many different types of lip balm as you can carry and send them all to me Grin

NorthernSpirit · 17/02/2020 20:03

Nothing, the £ is so weak the US is mega expensive!

SlayingDragons · 17/02/2020 20:21

Here’s what is always on my list when I go over. (Disclaimer: I used to live in TX so some of these are just what I found works for me)

Clothes:

  • Abercrombie jeans because they are the jeans that fit me best and they are way too expensive here.
  • Abercrombie kids’ clothes because fit my skinny girls perfectly and as above are too expensive here.
  • Toms
  • Converse

Chemist items:

  • Melatonin
  • Ibuprofen in big bottles of 200 tablets
  • Serum (it’s a particular one I used when I lived there and I like it but it’s hard to get here)
  • Nexcare bandaids - seriously these are amazing. They stay on better than any other plasters I have ever tried.
  • Bath & Body Works Hand sanitizers (for my DDs)

Food:

  • Wheaties (a favourite of one of my DDs)
  • Goldfish crackers (also a favourite of my youngest DDs)
  • Swedish fish (ditto above)
  • Jelly bellies (because I love buying eating them in bulk 😳)
  • Milk duds (DS’s favourite)
  • Ritz crackers (taste totally different to UK ones)
  • Haribo sour gold bears (in a massive bag - all for me)
  • Red Robin seasoning (amazing seasoning for fries from a burger chain by the same name)
  • Various tex mex condiments

There is more but they are so specific to my family that I think you’d be baffled by them, or are ordered online and delivered to a friend for me to bring back as they don’t deliver to the UK.

andannabegins · 17/02/2020 20:27

We have a bargain shop near where I live where they sell short date foods, all the American sweets come and go there. 25p per box of lemon heads etc. Glad I don't have to go all the way to the us for them!

onlyhereforthefood · 17/02/2020 20:34

Melatonin
All the m&ms and sugary cereal

Thuglife · 17/02/2020 20:40

Anything from Kiehls- I love their stuff and they give awesome samples. I love mooching round drug stores like Duane Reades. Enjoy your trip.

DreamingofSunshine · 17/02/2020 20:50

All the different flavour M&Ms. I also like the silicone earplugs which I struggle to find in the UK.

Anything from Bath and Body works especially the body cream. I get friends to bring it back from America and the Middle East. My DD is on her way home from Italy and phoned to ask which ones I would like but I don’t know if she bought any. Fingers crossed.

berkshirecat · 17/02/2020 21:53

Shock I didn't even know you could get lots of different flavour M&Ms!

Thank you everyone - I'm even more excited now. Going to pick light so I have lots of space left in our suitcases Grin

UrbanMage · 17/02/2020 21:58

All of Bath and Body works. Especially the hand sanitizer gels. Lush!

And Sephora make up, if you're into that.

Lampan · 17/02/2020 21:58

Yes I came to say M&Ms too! All the different flavours
Cape Cod Dark Russet crisps - like the dark ones in a bag of crisps but they are ALL like that 🤤
Peter Pan peanut butter
Tooth whitening strips
Aerie knickers

Wow I need a trip too now! Have fun!

PenguinsOnParade · 17/02/2020 22:04

I came to say all the different M&Ms too. Especially in huge bags.

Nutter butters. Especially the mini ones.

Any Reese's stuff that you don't see over here, although there is a lot more here than there used to be.

(I appear to have a peanut butter addiction. Blush)

DM always preferred getting Levis in the US as their sizing was different, she was between sizes here and liked their ones more (she hated the shrink to fit type ones.)

A lot of what I bought the last time I went was specific to the state I was in so it can depend where you go.

TheWordmeister · 17/02/2020 22:13

I buy - Tylenol PM, Nyquil, Neosporin, Crest White Strips, Tide with Bleach, Clorox wipes and Old Bay seasoning.

I really dislike US chocolate, unless I'm somewhere you can buy See's.

Rosehipbubbles · 17/02/2020 22:20

Neosporin - or the generic version - we always have tube in the go.
Everything from Trader Joe's - particularly like the chipotle dressing ( it's like Subway chipotle sw dressing)
Swedish fish - tropical are the best
Paydays - the mini ones in the big pack are the best size to taste ratio! Not too sweet but salty and perfect!
Handbags - coach if you can get to an outlet.

Katinski · 17/02/2020 22:25

People have already mentioned deodorant but I always buy Crystal Stick unperfumed deodorant, it says that a stick lasts for a year - and it really does!

HoldMyLobster · 17/02/2020 22:38

All-dressed chips
Any pickle flavor chips

Troels · 17/02/2020 22:55

Jolly Rancher Jelly beans, they bring them out for Easter.
Good and Plenty candies, they are licorice.
Red hots, cinnamon candies my kids loved them.
Red vines.
Triple Antibiotic ointment store brand of Neosporin.
Suave Coconut shampoo and Conditioner, cheap and cheerful.
Bottle of store brand Ibuprofen. (Uusally in bottles of 250)
Melatonin
Hanes mens undies, (Dh has been asking)
Hanes mens socks (he wants them too)
Danskin sportswear from Walmart, I like the leggings, tops and zip from hoodies
C9 Champion Sports wear from Target, I like the bras.
Country gravy mix by McCormicks
Taco seasoning McCormicks
Stew mix packets McCormicks (works great in the slow cooker)
Theres loads more.

berkshirecat · 17/02/2020 23:07

@PenguinsOnParade I'm addicted to peanut butter too so going to have to check out all of your recommendations Grin Thanks!
