Oh, I love a good crossword.

I assume it's about Nell Gwynn so probably Charles II?

glenhaggis · 16/02/2020 12:23

Yes! You know you get those clues when you kick yourself for not realising what the answer was when you knew it? One of those.

Which x-words do you like? I have an app on my tablet.

I prefer cryptic ones, I love the moment when the answer suddenly comes to you. Telegraph my favourite, The Times too hard for me!

I do like the general knowledge ones too - Times Two and any magazines.

We're a bit skint atm so stopped buying papers so I'm only really doing the ones in the freebie papers, Metro and Standard.

Are there any free apps you could recommend?

@DuckyMcDuck you can do the Guardian free on-line every day (and access all the previous ones).

I use CodyCross which is a bit irritating but fills a few minutes here and there and has lots of crosswords.

I’m hopeless at the cryptic ones but used to work with a couple of blokes who were excellent at them. The one that come to mind that they explained to me was ‘£51’. Anyone get the word?

Lobsterquadrille2 · 16/02/2020 20:10

Liquid?

glenhaggis · 16/02/2020 20:52

I'm hopeless at cryptic ones too I'm afraid.
I can't make head nor tail of £51.

glenhaggis · 16/02/2020 21:48
