Missing a Breastfeed

My little boy is 5 months old and breastfed apart from a night bottle of formula (9pm). He currently has his last breastfeed at 7:30pm and doesn’t have a breastfeed again until 5/6am.

I am due to leave him for an evening and will miss his last breastfeed, I will leave him some expressed milk but my question is will I need to pump when I get home? I won’t be back too late, maybe 10/11 but not sure whether it is ok at this stage to miss a feed or if I still need to pump to replace it? I have had minimal engorgement and leaking during my breastfeeding so I shouldn’t think that will be an issue just don’t want to end up getting too full or anything like a blocked duct.

Thanks in advance!

Hmm I personally would pump as I have suffered mastitis so am quite cautious. What time would the previous feed be? Maybe see how full you are? Either way enjoy your night out!

I would go for what feels comfortable unless you are prone to clogged ducts etc.
Have a bloody lovely time Grin

😂 thanks, it will be the first time going out and I can’t wait! Last feed will be at 5. Would you do a full pump or just enough to relieve any pressure?

I would need to pump or my boobs might explode!

If you feel uncomfortable then pump, just make a decision at the time. If you do a full pump you can replace the expressed milk used that evening in the freezer which saves you having to do it another time. Enjoy your evening off!

Just pump a bit off if you're uncomfortable. I did more or less the same (dd had 1 ff a day too)at that age and didn't need to pump when I got home.

Feed him when you get in. He probably won't even wake up. Then he'll sleep until 9am (maybe).

Missing one single breastfeed wouldn't affect your supply, but if you feel uncomfortable just express enough to relieve the pressure (I've hand expressed in the toilets many times!!!!)

TriangleBingoBongo · 15/02/2020 21:08

See how you feel when you get in.

If you're going home to him feed him when you get in. If he's away for the night then pump when you get in, before you go to bed and then pump in the night, (especially if you would normally be feeding him in the night) about 2 or 3 ish, you'll probably wake up full, so pump for ten mins and go back to sleep. Store the milk in the fridge for bottle feeding him tomorrow, or freeze for next night you're away. Pump again as soon as you wake up/ get up. Feed him for ages and ages as soon as you get him back, both sides.
