H&M clothing recycling

Has anyone tried this recently as far as I can tell H&M still take old clothes and give you a voucher to spend in store .

I intend to use this for a lot of old work uniform ( uniform logo changed and work wont take / dont want them back ). so I can not take the to a charity shop

So my questions are ,

Is there a limit as to how many bags I can take ?

How much are the vouchers worth ( £5 i think )

Do I have to spend a certain amount in store to get £s off

Is there a time limit that I have to use the vouchers buy

And am I going to find something suitable for a a over weight Blush mid forty year old to where or is it all 'trendy' stuff

When I did it, I handed in about 20 bags, and got 20 vouchers, so couldn't get through it all. They do expire, but it was a good few months' lead time. I had an enjoyable experience on the last valid day just giving the vouchers out to people in the queue at my local store - folk were delighted to get some free money off!

As for whether the clothes will suit you, depends on your tastes, shape, confidence, same as ever. Have a mooch about when you go to drop the stuff off - as you say, you can't do much of anything else with old logo clothing Smile

I find H&M good for basic vest tops and teeshirts.
They are also tye nest place for clothes for my boys. 80% of my 8 yr olds wardrobe is probably h&m organic cotton basics.

The discount vouchers are £5 off when you spend, I think, £20. Might be £25. They do expire so it might be worth staggering your donations if you have loads. May also be worth going to one of the bigger stores that goes homeware etc. That said I mainly just use it for environmental reasons so I feel better bc about throwing out old, worn clothes.

I would suggest going to a larger store with the vouchers as they have a far better selection. I mainly shop using the app with H&M, but have some good quality clothes from there recently - made from natural fabrics.

It’s £5 off when you spend £25 or above. Bloody love this scheme. Nothing goes to landfill; it all gets reused or recycled somehow and I have no problem spending money in H&M. You’ll find good basics and some nice workwear if you’re office-based and the kids’ stuff is good if you have children to buy for, too.

Word of warning - as much as I like H&M, they are the WORST for trouser sizing. Terrible rep for it. You’ll need to go up a size or two from normal but don’t be disheartened (they were supposed to have acknowledged and improved it a year or two back but there’s not been too much difference IME). Bizarrely the tops and dresses are all much more true to size.

Plus they take literally any fabric and brand. Doesn’t matter what it is or where it’s from.

wow 20 bags all at once , I was thinking I would have to sneak in and hope to get a different shop assistant each time lol.

@KittenVsBox I really need some new t-shirts most peoples dusts are in better condition Blush so that sounds good to me, No DCs here though so I get to spend it all on me

@Dorothea , I will have to stagger it a bit at least as I have 2 bin bags full and I dont drive ,
I didnt think about the homeware stuff , I really could do with some new bedded .

Think it was one voucher to be spent per transaction, but that's pretty standard for retail vouchers. Mine were just carrier bags rather than bin bags, so you could always break them down into smaller bags and get a few more vouchers Grin

@wizzywig one per transaction. Minimum £25 spend. Just do multiple transactions to get best value.

Thank you for all the info , I have cleared my wardrobes out and got 1.5 bin bags of stuff to go to H&M and half a bag to go to a charity shop ( all stuff in very good condition so hopefully it will help them raise much needed £££s )

I am going to split the H&M bin bags down into carrier bags and providing the storm has passed by tomorrow I will take them to H&M .
I will let you know how I get on Smile

I am not going to buy anything just yet as I need to buy a new wardrobe , I have spent half the day dismantling my old one which was part of the reason for the clear out .

All I need to do now is decide on where to buy a new wardrobe from ( the cupboard type thing , not the clothing ) . Then I can fill it with new clothes

This is amazing, I can (and do) put textiles out in kerbside collection for recycling/reuse, but I might as well save it up for taking to h&m and get a bit of a discount there for my efforts

I used to to put out unwanted clothing on the kerb in the bag that you get shoved through the letter box until I realised that the charity they are meant to be helping only get around 7 to 12 % of the ££ raised from what is sold which I think is a rip off .
I know you could argue that at least the charity is getting some money and the stuff isnt going into land fill but it does not really sit well with me .
So anything that I can give directly to a charity shop I do now .

Well I did it , I took two carrier bags to H&M and got two vouchers back .
You were all right , @UhKevini have to spend £25 to get the £5 off but the sales assist said jut tell us before we start toting up you sale that you would like to split it and we will .
The vouchers are valid for a year Smile
I have 2 more bags to take tomorrow and I plan ( I think ) to buy some new bedding with the vouchers .

@AlCalavicci that’s great to hear! Thanks for the feedback. I’ve actually got a pile I was going to give to charity for rag as they are baby clothes with marks and bobbled. So it’s good to know that all the clothes given to H&M will be recycled or reworn and not go to landfill. I buy a few bits from H&M now and again so I should’ve done this ages ago!

Go for it , it doesnt even need to be clothes , it can be towels , sheets , craft scrap cloth , etc.
Fling it all in a bag and take it to the cash desk Smile

Because the vouchers have got a full year to use you could wait till DCs /DPs birthday to buy them something nice.

But mine are going to be spent on me Grin

Yep , one of the work t-shirts I took had a huge hole in the back ( caught on a nail at work) , no problem at all .

Definitely go for it OP. I've got a voucher that I need to use by next Friday, and took a bag in this week and got a voucher that will last a year. I had a potter round the branch opposite my work this morning and saw a few things I liked but need to have a look in my wardrobe and see what I need probably nothing

I like the fact that you can put in anything and it will all get used one way or another. I put in some old bras and knicker sets that the charity shop won't take, some of DH's old t-shirts and stuff that is still good but I will never wear again.

Oh, that's amazing. I hate putting things to the tip, as I know it will go to landfill not be recycled.

Always a problem with logoed shirts, that the charity shop won't be able to sell.

I never knew this was a thing! I've got loads in loft waiting for a kerb charity bag collection! I know what I'm doing next week when kids are back at school...off I trot to H&M! Do you just go with your bag straight to the counter??

The logo tshirts was my main reason for going , I had 20 different things with a company logo on them !

I think they should advertise it more , it seems very few people know about it although to be fair they do have signs up around the cash desk in the shop I went into .
Yep just take as many bags as you can carry to the cash desk and hand them over and get a voucher stright back .
It can be used in-store or on line as long as you spend over £25

I have not looked into this a great deal but M&S / oxfam do a similar thing but it has to be M&S branded stuff
