Hi, I'm new on here. I've just found out I'm pregnant with 2nd baby. Literally 5 weeks, so very early. Unfortunately, I've had a sinus infection which has not been shifting for over 10days, I've tried everything naturally. The Dr gave me Erythromycin which is safe for pregnancy, I guess as safe as it can be. 2nd day of it today. I'm just so beside myself with worry that I'm going to cause damage to the fetus. I know that leaving the infection untreated could be bad as well. I'm just so upset that it's happening, bad timing 😔 I'm just looking for reassurance if possible. Thanks guys.

It’s fine. Amoxicillin would usually be first choice, unless you are allergic to Penicillin. Erythromycin is also frequently used in pregnancy and has been for years.

Most sinus infections will take 3 weeks to clear and most are viral. It’s sometime difficult to differentiate between viral and bacterial which is why antibiotics are often prescribed.

I was on a course of Erythromycin around the same gestation as you are after I had surgery while 4/5 weeks pregnant. I'm allergic to penicillin so I didn't have many other options. My son is now 5 months old and is absolutely perfect in every way. You'll be fine! Much better to take the antibiotics than to risk complications from the infection etc. They wouldn't prescribe it if it wasn't safe Smile

Please try not to worry. I had to have antibiotics three times when I was pregnant with my DS. The first time I was only 6 weeks. I was more worried about what a high temperature can do at that stage rather than taking the antibiotics.

I hope you feel better soon

Thank you. Yeh I'm not sure why she went for Erythromycin, she was showing me the computer and that was the one that flagged up to take in pregnancy 🤷‍♀️ 3 weeks oh man, I've genuinely never felt so bad and presumably will go from this to full on pregnancy symptoms 🙈

Thanks for the reassurance. I tend to over think and googling stuff doesn't help and finding scary daily mail articles 🙈🙈🙈

Also, at 5 weeks baby isn’t sharing your blood supply yet, as there is no placenta. Look after yourself!

That's a good point. Thank you
