Just wondered if anyone else has seen him? He said he was wearing a joker-esque suit but with a proper Pennywise mask. And an umbrella. He was walking along going “hah hah!” in peoples faces and then when he got off the tube he shouted “bye bye” at everyone.

Scariest thing I ever saw on the tube was a very obviously hungover Vic Reeves. He really didn't look well...

BearSoFair · 15/02/2020 10:57

Has anyone else seen the beggar with a cat on the Piccadilly line? Young skinny guy, probably mid 20s, walks down the train with his cat in a tote bag! Cat seems completely chilled, pops it's head out and has a glance around now and then then disappears back down. He seemed to be around a lot late last year but I've seen no sign of him recently.

Like a PP I also wonder how much beggars get nowadays in central London when people no longer carry cash. Charity collectors have started carrying card machines; I’m waiting for a beggar to brandish one of those under my nose.

Not on the tube but someone who works at the local Waitrose told me that the beggar who hangs around outside refuses to move because he says he makes around £800 a week. I can’t know if it is true but I spent a good five minutes afterwards sulking at my parents for bringing me up with inconvenient ideas like self respect

Tissue beggars are often on Southern trains between Victoria and Brighton. They are harmless; just ignore and don't engage. What I object to are 'homeless' beggars who give a loud ranting speech and demand money, even from16/17 year old students.

I've seen them there as well. They are getting more in your face though, especially the men.

The band was very loud. Very very loud.

Cherrysoup · 15/02/2020 11:41

@Wolfff poor pudge, panicking at missing his stop! 😂🐦

soleilviolet · 15/02/2020 14:28

^^

There was a beggar on the tube, just coming in to Shepherd's Bush today with a card. He standing right in front of me, he knew I was ignoring him to hand over any cash and he wouldn't move until I got off the train. Very intimidating.

KatherineJaneway · 15/02/2020 14:51

@AutumnRose1

Yes, East London.

KatherineJaneway · 15/02/2020 14:53

@MarshaBradyo

Katherine eurgh I’d hate that

It was really unpleasant. I would never normally loudly swear at someone in public but he made me so angry trying to bully me.

Wolfff · 15/02/2020 15:06

Just seen this on a local news website:

The British Transport Police ask London transport passengers to not encourage tissue selling if you see it while travelling.

Instead you can help the person or group of people by texting BTP on 61016.

Include the following details in your text:
The service you’re travelling on
The carriage you're travelling in
How many people are involved
A description of the person or people
Any other information that may be necessary or helpful

Anyone remember the Circle Line parties?

AutumnRose1 · 15/02/2020 15:37

Katherine, were there lots of people around?

No one invited me to a Circle Line party 😢

KatherineJaneway · 15/02/2020 23:08

Katherine, were there lots of people around?

A few. I could have shouted for help if needs be. I was a bit on the back foor but suddenly he got me so angry picking on me and thinking he could intimidate me that I shouted at him to get stuffed in no uncertain terms and he then left me alone. I think he saw me as an easy target, more fool him.

AutumnRose1 · 15/02/2020 23:43

Oh Katherine, I don’t blame you. I just wondered what kind of thing he expected to happen, like if there was no one around, eek.

I have a personal alarm but often don’t take it with me because I’m worried it’ll go off on the bus or something. This making me think I should. It’s ear splitting.

WalkingInTheAir13 · 16/02/2020 03:54

I didn't know the Pennywise reference so I've now looked at the masks on Amazon. OMG!

As both child and adult, I've always been petrified by clowns and I think if I saw one of these guys on the Tube, I would die of shock.

I guess the correct reaction is to laugh at them - the shocked reaction is what flashers thrive on so maybe clowns are similar.

I agree that the Tissue Beggars are becoming more intimidating.

On a lighter note: Mornington Crescent!

KatherineJaneway · 16/02/2020 06:28

Oh Katherine, I don’t blame you. I just wondered what kind of thing he expected to happen, like if there was no one around, eek.

I'm not sure what his purpose was either. It was Halloween but this was a big standard London street with no parties or other people dressed up etc.

I think he liked picking on people and made a mistake with me thinking I'd be scared or something.

Cookit · 16/02/2020 07:33

I have barely travelled by tube the last few years but prior to that used to see beggars all the time. Always with the same story about how it cost a specific sum of money to go into a hostel for the night and they were collecting for that.

daisy2002 · 16/02/2020 08:03

I'm a tube driver and recently I've noticed a huge increase in beggars on the tube.
There are ones who leave the tissues & others who just stand infront of passengers with a note asking for money.
I have kicked quite a few of them off my train or told them to get off when I've been travelling on the train myself.
One passenger shook his head at me and didn't look impressed when I told a beggar to get off the train.
It may not be a popular opinion but I can't stand beggars on the tube, getting in peoples faces wanting money. People have the right to go about their journey peacefully and shouldn't have beggars, buskers or like the op said... people trying to scare or intimidate them.
I would encourage anyone who feels intimidated or if anyone is being aggressive in any way, to walk down to the driver & tell them.
Don't take crap from people on the train, that's what the train drivers & stations staff are there for, to help you.

RightSwipe · 16/02/2020 08:11

Pennywise guy sounds terrifying!

I was on the Northern line yesterday and there was a woman selling tissues. Often see guys who are very obviously street homeless/addicts giving the pre-prepared speeches for money on the tube. They’re usually really polite and although I don’t give them money, I do feel for them.

I remember Be A Winner Not A Sinner guy from Oxford Circus. He really put the hours in with his megaphone, that fella.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 16/02/2020 09:09

DS and I ( on different days/different stations) have met someone asking for £1.80 (random amount) to fix a flat tyre when his 'kids are in the car'

He does manage to pull a few suckers in Shock

AutumnRose1 · 16/02/2020 09:42

Oh and often it’s a fixed amount for the electric meter.

SinkGirl · 16/02/2020 09:56

People who dress up as scary clowns, especially those who deliberately scare the shit out of people in dark car parks and train stations to make a “funny” YouTube video, deserve everything they get.

I am terrified walking in certain places alone at night as it is. There’s a very good chance if I encountered one of these twats I’d either have a heart attack, or have a knee jerk reaction that involves me knee and their balls. It would really really mess me up if I encountered something like this.

I suppose on a busy tube it’s less terrifying, but given the content of Joker, and that cinema shooting in the US, I’d be extremely nervous if I saw someone dressed like this and behaving this way on public transport.

longwayoff · 16/02/2020 15:05

Friend in New York at Halloween, looked out of the 3rd floor Airbnb
window at the block across the road to see a fully clad clown, mask included, carrying out a dental procedure on a patient. She sent me a pic but can't get it off my phone to entertain u with. God Bless America.

AutumnRose1 · 16/02/2020 15:17

I think it’s different in New York.

I’ve not seen the Joker but I’m curious now.

longwayoff · 16/02/2020 15:42

Grin was Halloween. Nobody else turned a hair.

Oldraver · 16/02/2020 15:54

I've just seen a tissue beggar, my first

Couple opposite me with suitcases were really confused
