It fascinates me and thats not to upset everyday folk who are on the journey. They used the same surrogate that carried their little girl that must be just over one year? The poor womans hardly had chance to recover. I know she wasnt forced!

They already have a boy and girl. I dont understand celebs at all. I wonder if it was in the UK or USA? Anyway, Im sure the little one will be very loved thats the main.

It's so very very distasteful. They already had two naturally carried and conceived babies yet bought two more. She wasn't infertile, they bought babies. Why does the media fawn over them for doing so? That poor surrogate, having to do this for money and having to give up her child.

LochJessMonster · 19/02/2020 10:28

@MrsJamin How very distasteful to want more than your allocated 2 children Hmm For all you know, she was unable to carry any further children herself.

Assuming this is true (and it’s such a coincidence, how many celebs have a couple of babies but are medically unable to be pregnant again and just HAVE to rent a surrogate to have more and more) then she could have stopped at two children, like most ordinary non-rich people would have?

Is it ok to buy someone's kidneys?

How very distasteful to use another woman's body to pander to your 'wants'.

For all you know, she was unable to carry any further children herself.

It's possible, but it doesn't change anything at all. Having your desired number of children - or indeed any children at all - is not a right.

I haven't read any of the links (I don't do 'news'papers) but are you sure that there was a financial transaction made?

I ask because a friend of mine was a surrogate and she wasn't allowed to receive payment, just a small donation towards related expenses (maternity clothes mainly).

Yeah, and? That doesn't make purchasing babies acceptable!

DinaCaliente · 19/02/2020 11:39

The fact that it is usually poorer woman that become surrogates says it all. When do you see rich women choosing to be a surrogate?

I actually know two surrogates and they are so far from everyone's stereotypes on here.

Given that the same woman gave birth to both this little boy and the couple's 3rd child within the space of 17 months, I'm pretty sure this was a commercially commissioned baby. I can't imagine any woman going through 'surrogate' birth and pregnancy twice in under 2 years just so that 2 very rich people could 'complete' their family.

My friend who was a surrogate is a well off professional lady, she did it because she wanted to help someone.
This is my only experience of surrogacy though so I recognise that this may not be typical.

Assume the women who have had babies for others that people know in RL are in the UK, ie “altruistic” surrogacy - although this too involves payment of expenses, which think there was research recently that the average is £18k or something. US egg, sperm and surrogacy trade, for example, is fully commercial.
