MA acceptance fee?

I've been offered a place at Hull University to do a MA. it's online and in the email it says I have to pay a £250 acceptance fee (in addition to the £9.5k course fee)

I've never heard of this before and it makes me a bit nervous. Is it standard practice for an online only MA?

Thank you

I work in postgraduate admissions at a university and we require a £750 deposit for home/EU students before they can register.

I'm applying for a post grad qualification at the moment and there's a registration fee too. Also online so I wonder if it's partly to stop people applying who have no intention of actually completing the course.

Thanks. Just something I've never seen before and it threw me a bit.

Hmm that's interesting. I too am studying part-,time at a distance but no registration fee required and I am paying my fees per module (one module per term, 7 for the full degree over 3/4 years), invoiced in the first fortnight of the module.

I should add it's a reputable uni and course with a proven track record.

@GlowWine

I’m also studying online via a brick uni (not the one I work at) and pay per module. Modular study has a different payment structure to full time study, which is paid annually Smile
