Sudden menopause?

I usually have very regular 27 day cycle. I'm currently on cycle day 41. Is this normal? I don't realistically think I could be pregnant, but I'm finding the lateness very disconcerting Confused

I'm 46 and we did have unprotected sex once, but I think it was before my last period.

It’s highly unlikely you are pregnant Op, however I’d take a test, just in case

MinnieMountain · 14/02/2020 13:21

Could you be starting the peri-menopause?

Sorry, I've just noted your title properly.

Mine suddenly went from 30 days to 45. Since then I've had two longer cycles book-ended by two 28 day cycles.

Iknowishouldpoas · 14/02/2020 13:26

I'm sure it is perimenopause, but I'd expected cycles to change gradually. I've no idea why!

I will take a test anyway just for reassurance!

Mines starting going to pot around 3-4 years ago (I am 51), I can go 2-3 months routinely every month, then I have a long 6-8 week gap and then an unexpected (office chair staining, trouser soaking, need towels to sit in car to drive home 😳) tsunami. Then it goes back to normal every 28 days for a few months. Be prepared when out of the house just incase!

I've mentioned at the Drs when in for other reasons, and I have had my hormones checked probably 4-5 times in the last 4 years, last time was 3 months ago, but they always comes back as normal.

(maybe take a test too, it is a very remote possibility, especially if you don't have any pregnancy signs, but worth ruling out!)

Iknowishouldpoas · 14/02/2020 13:39

I have lots of pregnancy signs but I'm pretty sure that they're only in my head Blush

I'm nervous of the tsunami that's coming!

Phew. Very clear negative test. So I will make sure I'm prepared for the flood! Thanks all 💐

Am I correct saying that the NICE guidelines say blood tests are unnecessary after 45 or has that changed? I don't understand why a woman in her 50s would require tests unless ttc or to diagnose something abnormal (ie other than peri menopause)?

psychedelephant · 14/02/2020 14:33

Sorry, that was a roundabout way of saying I'm surprised you've been repeatedly tested broken.

BrokenWing · 14/02/2020 21:13

No idea why they tested, I've been in for various problems (high BP, hair loss, blood in urine, abdominal pain, medication changes...nothing particularly menopause related) where they've taken blood tests and they've asked general health questions including period frequency, night sweats etc and said do you want us to check your hormones for menopause while we are doing your bloods anyway. I have never asked for them or asked if there is a reason they want to check, I've even said they were checked last time and i wasn't. 🤷🏻‍♀️

dustibooks · 14/02/2020 21:20

That's how mine started. Periods suddenly very irregular, anything up to a gap of about 10 weeks.

psychedelephant · 14/02/2020 23:09

Yes, they did mine too broken. I'm in my 50s too. Not sure what they were expecting to find tbh, if I'm not peri now it's surely just a matter of time Grin
