Am I ill? Night sweats! Please help!

Last night, I woke up in bed, sweating loads and freezing. I normally sleep with the windows open but I’d left them shut and had a really thick duvet on my bed. I’m not sure if me being too warm had led to me sweating buckets which had then made me feel cold (because of the moisture) or if there’s something else going on. I didn’t feel ill as such when I woke up, just extremely shivery, cold and sweaty but I got back to sleep eventually and woke in the morning feeling totally fine. I’ve never experienced night sweats before so I’d really appreciate any responses. Thank you Smile

I get this quite a lot, doesn't seem to depend on external/room temperature although I tend to find it happens more frequently if my anxiety is high or if my diet is poor. Sorry I've no useful advice but I'm watching with interest.

I get this when I’m particularly stressed (along with random screaming Shock), and when I am about to get ill/my immune system is trying to fight something off

I get night sweats all the time, worse when I'm on my period or close to starting it, but it happens at other times too. It's just normal for me. With the window closed and the thick duvets, maybe you just got particularly hot last night, or maybe you're about to get a cold or something. If it keeps happening and you don't get ill then speak to your doctor as it's a new thing, but if this is just a one off or you end up coming down with a stinking cold then I wouldn't worry.

How old are you OP? I get this as part of my menopause

OP I get this when my body is trying to fight something off - I call it the Fever Bug!

I've had it happen since my 20s so no link to menopause. I get it in the day as well though - high fever, no other symptoms.

Had you eaten a lot of sugar that day?

I get this a lot, started at 33 but it is peri menopause related. We’re you soaked through completely? It’s like an extreme form of night sweats and called night drenches apparently, you woke up cold not hot due to the amount of sweat.

I wear cotton night shirts and keep a spare one next to the bed, the cotton really helps and being a night shirt it’s easy to slip off and change in the middle of the night which warms you up and helps you get back to sleep. I also wash my bedding a lot 😞

Hope it was a one off for you.
