Sinus medication keeping me awake!

weehoo · 12/02/2020 04:21

I've had a bad cold the last few days and bought some sinus tablets yesterday afternoon so I could sleep at night.

The pharmacy advised not to take them too close to bedtime as they might keep me awake as they have some sort of stimulant. And so I stupidly took some at 10pm Blush

It's gone 4am, I've been lying here wide awake since 2am and I need to be up just after 6. Both kids have migrated to my bed and are taking it in turns to kick me in the side (one lying either side of me taking up most of the bed)

What I don't know is, is lying still and resting anything like sleep? V worried about being able to function tomorrow (longish drive to work at 7am then full day at work)

In other news, my sinuses are totally clear 😒

Yes...rest your body and you won't feel too bad. Although screens and sleep aren't compatible - you'd be better reading a book to try to make you sleepy.

I've been trying not to use my phone - it's hard though as brain is in overdrive. And I'm starving - keep thinking about massive fry-ups!

So get up, eat a bowl of something (cereal/porridge) and go get in childs bed. You'll get an hour's sleep before morning.

I fell asleep for an hour before my alarm went off!

According to my Fitbit, I had a really good nights sleep - can only hope it was a rest of some sort!

LOL - love the lying fitbit!! Lots of tea and coffee will get you through today and an early night. (Maybe take the sinus medicine about 3pm! - At Uni if we weren't well we would pop a couple of Nurofen Cold and Flu tablets - they had you flying all afternoon.)

Was it sudafed? That stuff is terrible. I took it once and was awake all night even though I took it at 5pm! I had restless legs for days afterwards. I highly advice sticking your head carefully over a hot bowl of water with some vick in it instead to clear yourself out

Apolloanddaphne · 12/02/2020 10:28

I can only take medication like sudafed in the morning as it makes me very wide awake and hyper.

woodencoffeetable · 12/02/2020 10:28

next time use decongestant nose spray.
much more effective and with less side effects.

TheFaerieQueene · 12/02/2020 10:31

Use lemsip max day and night. Obvs use the day in the day etc and that will help. I have sinusitis atm and they do work as well as anything otc. That and vicks up my nose!

Does it have pseudoephedrine in it? That keeps me awake so I avoid it now.

weehoo · 12/02/2020 12:05

Yes it's Sudafed with pseudoephedrine in it. It brought back awful memories of cancer treatment when the steroids would keep me awake all night.

Just taken another one to get me through the afternoon (am flagging now) and won't take any more today

Life is a bit stressful at the mo (moving house this month) hence my needing to keep going. With any luck I'll sleep better tonight!
