Can someone please calm me down.

I have such bad health anxiety around my son because he had had health issues his whole life. We suspect he has another chest infection and prescribed anti biotics today. Gave him calpol at half 12. And it only worked for 2 hours until his temp was back up to 38.6 so have ibuprofen and temp has come down to 37.5 but I'm worrying about not being able to manage the temp in the night. He had a fit this time last year and I'm petrified it will happen again.
Also even when his temp is down he is breathing quicker than normal.

Can someone offer comfort because I become a mess

Give ibuprofen just before bed. It tends to last a couple of hours longer than paracetamol does. And remember that a temperature up to 38 is helpful: it’s produced by the interferon your body makes to help kill the viruses. I don’t give antipyretic medication at under 38-38.5 and let the body do it’s job. I assume you’re ds had a temperature much higher when he had convulsions (39.5 plus?) How old is he?

I can't remember what temp it was but it was a really nasty chest infection which he has again.
When his temp comes down he is still breathing quick too

My ds has had a really bad illness this weekend, we struggled to keep his temp below 40 for nearly 48hours, it's only just come down below it now. Took him to the gp on Saturday and Sunday as I was so concerned about the temp and the doctor wasn't one bit concerned about his temp being over 40.

I wouldn’t worry too much if you can keep it below 40 by alternating calpol and ibuprofen. At that age I’d maybe bring him into your bed so you can keep an eye on his temperature easily and let him rest, only giving meds if he’s over 38.5 (for your anxiety’s sake: I’d wait until 39 with my own dc!) In daytime, ice pops are useful for lowering temperature and getting fluids in too
