I have a 7am flight from Gatwick, what are the chances it will be delayed/cancelled?

Just that really, I know loads of flights have been cancelled across the country but what are the chances, do you think, that ones from Gatwick could be?

I would say 50/50. I am quite near Gatwick and the wind is noisy enough to stop me getting back to sleep, but I can't hear clattering so presuming garden bits etc are not flying about.

Depends a lot on the exact model of aeroplane, and the angle of the wind. I've turned up at my local airport and my flight cancelled in grim weather, but another company got me there despite 60mph winds.

It’ll also depend on how bad it gets. There’s obviously a chance.
I’ve flown in a storm and remember watching the luggage trolley being blown over on the way to the plane. We had an interesting take off but fine after that.

I’m watching Flightradar24 and lots of aircraft are having to do a go around due to the wind. Not seen any take off yet.

Thanks all! So far no delays...fingers crossed it stays that way!

I’m at the gate and it’s vile weather out there Confused

Stanstead seems to be fairing better for landing - there are flights meant for Luton and Gatwick on their approach atm

It’s horrendous out

Have you taken off? I’m delighted for you if so. I was going to say cancelled for sure.

Have taken off and landed the other side! Take off was not fun! We started to go up, veered slightly then came back down then went up but as we started to straighten out (technical term) we dropped v quickly and had some awful turbulence. But I am safely in Copenhagen so that’s good 😂

Congrats! Sideways takeoffs/landings are a bit on the scary side...
