Has anyone had a gastric balloon (temporary)

Anyone any experience of this? Did it work? Would you recommend?

I feel like I have tried everything and I always end up giving up because its soooo much effort and no reward...lose 1lb...put 1lb on...repeat for 20 years!

I'm not looking for advice on food etc. Specifically wanted experiences (good or bad) of gastric balloon?

I've had one. I had it in for 4 months. Its bit very pleasant getting it in and out ...and your body tries to reject it by making you VERY sick (throw up). But I lost quite a lot of weight with it.

Are you just having the balloon? Or are you thinking of surgery too? I only ask because once the balloon is taken out you can eat what you used to with no restriction sonits easy to put weight back on.

Sorry
..its very unpleasant getting it in and out!

Oh God that sounds horrible. Does the sickness wear off or are you just sick all the time?

Just desperate to get some results and make a significant change. I do loads of exercise and know what I need to eat. I'm confident I could keep weight off

Knowing what you need to eat isn’t the same as changing your diet though. If you go back to how you’ve always eaten then you will go back to the size you are.
Sounds grim. I wouldn’t.

mrselizabethdarcy How much did you lose and what was your starting weight if you don’t mind me asking? Are you glad you did it?

mrselizabethdarcy · 08/02/2020 23:25

I lost about 3 stone. The sickness does wear off after about a week ..and they can give you something to help stop you being sick.
I had the balloon to help me lose weight before my gastric bypass operation.

I personally wouldn't have it on it's own...but that's because I know I would have gone back to my old eating habits after it was removed.
Good luck with whatever you decide and let me know if you have any more questions I can help with.

I'm almost 4 weeks in after having the ballon fitted. I have already lost 11lbs. Initially it's quite a grim first few days but eventually settles down. I feel fine now other than the fact bread is a definite no no for me. I'd say do it. You need to sort through your demons with food for it to work in the long run. Good luck whatever your choice

The balloon is meant to be used as a tool to get morbidly overweight people down to a safer weight for them to have a sleeve/bypass. On its own it’s not going to help with long term loss.
