God doesn't need money

AhoyMrBeaver · 08/02/2020 16:20

No. How would one go about giving money to God anyway?

Lailaha · 08/02/2020 16:22

My religion carries a religious obligation to give to charity, yes. In fact, I think it's a greater or lesser part of all Abrahamic religions, isn't it?

Waxonwaxoff0 · 08/02/2020 16:23

Well I'm not religious so I would never give my money to the church if that's what you mean.

I do donate monthly to charities but it's not a tenth of my income and I do it because I can afford it and like giving back, not because I feel a duty to.

keepsmiling2015 · 08/02/2020 16:25

No

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 08/02/2020 16:25

I tried but she doesn’t have PayPal.

Timetogiveupnow · 08/02/2020 16:25

As a Christian I ought to. I do donate to various charities in money, time and goods but not ten per cent. The bible says don't give away if you will be in debt so ten percent is a guide but be sensible

lazylinguist · 08/02/2020 16:26

No. I don't believe in god, and I largely think that charities are doing what ought to be done by the government. That's not to say that I never give to charities, but I think that those who can afford it should pay higher taxes in order to help care for the weakest and poorest in society. Paying taxes to help create a fairer society is our duty imo.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 08/02/2020 16:28

Fuck no

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 08/02/2020 16:32

Yes, RC here, I aim for the amount stipulated by the Pallotinian community. The money I do not spend because of lent goes to charitiy as well.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 08/02/2020 16:36

I spend 50p on a candle every now and again when I go to the cathedral but that's as much as I ever give to the church.

I barely have any money left over from paying the bills for myself let alone enough to give to charity.

ChristmasArmadillo · 08/02/2020 16:40

I always have.

Feelingabitashamed · 08/02/2020 16:43

Not money but I give a working day a week to charity volunteering (in total). Not religious at all.

adaline · 08/02/2020 16:45

Pft, no way.

Davespecifico · 08/02/2020 16:45

There’s one of those giant warehouse churches in our city, where no doubt most worshippers tithe. Their church leaders have Instagram accounts and in any given month, there are pictures of them abroad, off on jollies all around the world. It horrifies me that people give to these people in good faith.

CharlotteMD · 08/02/2020 16:46

The government takes over half of what I earn - take it our of that.

Bluntness100 · 08/02/2020 16:48

Do you mean give to a church? No. And when I give to charity it's one of my choice, st a level I can afford, it's not ten percent.

Strawberrycreamsundae · 08/02/2020 16:48

Churches have, on the whole, infinitely more wealth than I will ever see so no way, never.
I give regularly to various charities, I certainly don't give a tenth of my pension 😳

squizzles · 08/02/2020 16:49

Nope. Don't even give to charity. I pay my bit through taxes already.

squizzles · 08/02/2020 16:50

How many pastors have private jets and mansions. Wouldn't give a penny to a bollocks organisation.

ScarletAnemone · 08/02/2020 16:50

Duty, no. But we’ve always chosen to give around 5% to various charities we support. It would be great if all the weakest in society were properly supported by the government, but they’re not. The money goes out of our account every month before we’ve had time to spend it on anything else.
