Went for a job interview...

First in about 20 years. Something I could definitely do and there was one other person to be interviewed after me.

Came home feeling really happy and positive but the day has ended and I haven't had a call back. He said he was hoping to decide by the end of the day.

Haven't got it have I? Sad

Really surprised at how much I wanted it, wishing I'd not told anyone now

Ah that's rubbish :(

I'll commiserate with you; I put myself forward for a supervisory role I'm more than capable of, at work. Been told this morning someone else is coming for a trial on Tuesday because I have less experience (even though his experience is probably less relevant to the environment) :(

Wine?

Last time that happened to me I was on here bitching about how I didn’t get the job because I was so old and decrepit, and what a load of * they were for saying they’d let me know and not calling etc.

I did get the job and the agency just didn’t get if their bums to call me up until the next day.

So you never know. And if you didn’t get it - well then it just wasn’t the right job for you and you have most likely had a close escape (they are most likely a load of ratbags and you wouldn’t like it there anyway).

wantedthejob · 07/02/2020 18:22

Sorry lucysmam that's rubbish.

I just know I'd love it. Thought I was so prepared and suitable for the role. Maybe he didn't like me, it's a very small team Sad

Lord it is actually through an agency. Hoping that's a possibility!

Drop the agency a line on Monday to see if they heard back.

mildlymiffed · 07/02/2020 19:51

When I interview I always sleep on it. So hopefully you were great but they've given themselves the weekend just to consider your fabulousness!!

takeyourrubbishhome · 07/02/2020 19:56

It’s too soon to tell. I’ve had call backs the same day and sometimes it’s been a couple of days. When we interview we would like to make the decision that same day (mostly because it’s hard to get everyone together again to discuss). Sometimes we just can’t. recently we interviewed 3 very strong candidates. It was really hard to pick so we all put our thoughts forward and then left the line manager to decide overnight.

EstebanTheMagnificent · 07/02/2020 19:57

It’s really shit to make candidates wait over the weekend. Hope you hear soon, OP.

wantedthejob · 07/02/2020 19:58

Thanks. He did say he was hoping to make a decision today. I'm hoping my contact at the agency just hasn't picked it up or had left for the day.

It's going to be a long weekend Sad

Good luck OP!

Even if you don't get the job it doesn't mean you weren't amazing or that he didn't like you. If they have one vacancy and interview five brilliant people four of them are still going to miss out.

It's a huge win that you got the interview and it went so well you came away feeling happy and positive. Be kind to yourself here and talk up your achievements.

Elouera · 07/02/2020 20:10

I wouldn't discount the role just yet. Yes, its annoying not to be told when they said they would, BUT, coming from the other side: As a previous manger, spending time to review CV's, organise interview questions, book in candidates, take time out to actually interview etc can take a great deal of time away from your regular day to day job. I often would finish interviews, then only start my regular work at 4pm and work till late to get it done. If his exact wording was 'I'm hoping to make a decision today', it doesn't sound like he was guaranteeing a call back today.

Some agencies used to ring in the afternoon for feedback about their candidate, others didnt. The other candidate may well have got the job, but call your agency on monday and ask for feedback if you didnt get the job.

Best of luck and try not to stress over the weekend x

wantedthejob · 07/02/2020 20:15

Thank you, I know I should take the positives and not give up hope just yet. I really felt good afterwards but deflated as 5.30 came and went.

The stories of people hearing/waiting until the next day are encouraging anyway

I had a job interview last Friday that I felt went really well. Didn't hear a dicky bird that day. Stewed about it all weekend. Tried to forget about it. Found out Monday afternoon I got the job! So fingers still crossed...

wantedthejob · 07/02/2020 20:43

Well done ACME! Ooohh I hope the same happens here

OP posts:
KitKat1985 · 07/02/2020 20:46

Not necessarily. I've interviewed candidates and I've been delayed calling them back sometimes, just because other more urgent stuff has cropped up.

AJPTaylor · 07/02/2020 20:46

Decision by the end of the day is not the same thing as communicating that decision. Esp on a Friday!

MrsDoylesTeaBags · 07/02/2020 20:47

I was looking for a job through an agency a while back. Employers never got in touch when they said they would. Keep in touch with your agency, its important for them that you give your feedback as well as getting theirs.

Give them a call on Monday, you might not find out until next week. Good luck

whichjobwouldyoutake · 07/02/2020 20:51

I've had 5 rejections in a row and then got 2 offers, I was so despondent and thought I'd never get a job as I was applying for ones I am capable of. It will come right for you when it's the right job.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 07/02/2020 21:18

I was asked to apply for a job. I was the only person "interviewed" for the job (in reality it was a chat about how we would work as a team). It still took nearly 2 months for them to actually offer me the job. I'm there two years and love it. and make sure shit gets done in a more timely fashion

Keep the faith over the weekend, fingers crossed for you.

wantedthejob · 08/02/2020 15:52

I got the job!!!! Must have more faith Grin
