I never rinse rice before cooking.

I use 1 part basmati rice to 2 parts boiling water, straight into saucepan, with some salt if preferred.
Lid on, bring back to boil, give it a very gentle stir then lid back on, lowest heat and leave it for 10 minutes.
Turn off heat.
After another 5-10 minutes, give it a good stir and it's done.

My rice used to be very mushy and I realised that stirring it all the time brings out the starch and makes it stick together, like when you make risotto.

I have used this method for years now and it has never failed me.

Yes. Then soak it for at least an hour

movingdilemma1234 · 08/02/2020 08:54

Yes rinse it in cold water a couple of times

LoveIsLovely · 08/02/2020 08:57

Wash it three times then into the rice cooker.

Husband is Asian, we have high standards for rice in this house. When we first got married and I didn't rinse the rice, then boiled it in a pan, I think he did actually wonder if he'd made a mistake in marrying me.

@CanIHaveATiaraPlease Greek in-laws do this too. Seems pointless to me when adding strong sauces especially to pasta. Just a load of needless extra salt. SIL was worried because there was no chicken stock for DD's pesto pasta the other day and that she'd have to use beef. She was very confused when I suggested just using water lol

Yes
Been taught to rinse until clear before cooking in salted water with a knob off butter, comes out fluffy and perfect. I use basmati rice.

I took lessons in Asian cookery and the teacher told us to wash rice in 5 lots of water unless you actually want it starchy/ sticking together. I always wash mine and it is beautiful when cooked .

It gives a deeper flavour happy obviously if making a curry then the rice doesn’t need stock.

stoplickingthetelly · 08/02/2020 15:38

Yes, I rinse it under the cold tap before cooking. It goes all sticky/clumpy otherwise.

BestIsWest · 08/02/2020 15:41

I soak it first then rinse it.

I use a microwave rice steamer - it’s brilliant.

MoonlightMistletoe · 08/02/2020 16:03

Yes 8 times until it's clear

moresugarpls · 08/02/2020 19:40

I usually soak the rice

QueenOfOversharing · 08/02/2020 19:59

Yes. Until the water runs clear.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 08/02/2020 20:27

If I have time, I soak it for 30 minutes and then rinse. If I’m in a hurry, I just give it a good rinse.
