Everyday ones are a mixture of a habitat set from our first flat (35 years) and a top up set from when DC were small (20 years) from John Lewis.

Regular everyday plates - around 2 years old.

They get used and abused (and chipped). Hence they are bog standard white dinner plates/bowls that you buy in packs and I replace/supplement every couple of years.

My "dinner set" aka royal worcester bone China service (12 place settings with every plate/bowl/serving dish/tea/coffee cups pots/jugs etc you could imagine that was built up over 5 years - I got the majority as wedding presents - and cost £££) is still in prime condition 20 years since I started collecting it as is my silver service I bought to go with it (again built over time, but now 12 settings).

Yes, I look after it more carefully and use it less, but tbh it's seen quite a lot of action over the years and is pristine.

I know a lot of people don't care about this stuff but I love it when my table is set beautifully with fine china/silverware - I don't care if anyone else appreciates it Grin

Used daily and probably at least 25 years old from Ikea.

Butterfingers and tiled floors mean that even our nice 2016 set from Habitat are looking a bit thin on the ground these days. The landlord’s plan white ones are chipped as anything. She’ll claim she had then since 1822 and try to take our deposit probably, but we stashed some in the cellar.
Interestingly the habitat ones don’t chip, though they do smash beautifully when your toddler gets a bit wobbly on the way to the kitchen.

Glasses are even worse, we’re going through a set a month probably 😭.

okiedokieme · 07/02/2020 17:14

6 years old, cutlery is more impressive, 25 years old!

Southmouth · 07/02/2020 17:25

Mine are probably 10-15 years old. They were my mums and we’re just going to be used until we got new ones but we’ve just carried on using them! Minus a bowl though thanks to a clumsy OH though

BestIsWest · 07/02/2020 17:30

Posh set only ever come out at Christmas- they were an engagement present from my grandmother who died the following month so very precious to me. We’ve had them almost 35 years.

The ones in daily use came from Wilkos a few years ago - they’re really nice white china.

I hanker after Denby but DH really doesn’t like it for some reason.

MerryDeath · 07/02/2020 18:08

dinger 😂

really bloody old! they are denby and belonged to husband's grandma. my friend reckons they are worth a bit now but to me they are just old shit we use because we have always had more important things to spend a few hundred quid on! they are really ugly and clunky and have a funny grainy texture which + cutlery makes my teeth feel funny but I'm really clumsy so i sort of like not having precious stuff in general.

My last set was from the 70's so about over a decade older than me. Brown flowers taken when I went to uni to help my Granny declutter. Replaced about 3 years ago with a large set of willow pattern stuff which I love and has been assembled both new and from charity shops. My mugs are all mismatched. Oldest around 15-20 years to newest 3 months.

I also have some white soup/pasta plates which were my great grandmothers and I reckon date from the 30's. They are brilliant and used regularly. My nice dinner service and matching teaset was my other Granny's and I reckon from the 50s/60s. That only gets used for dinner parties.

TonOfLead · 07/02/2020 18:49

25 years.

It was a cheap set from Argos. The design looks a bit dated and I'd quite like to replace them with plain white ones. But they just keep going so I'm stuck with them.

AdoptedBumpkin · 07/02/2020 18:53

Ours are just a few years old.

Ikeasucks · 07/02/2020 19:20

After being impressed by the longevity revealed here I’m now trying to track down my Denby set to see if i can find a few replacements but not having much luck

Older than me and I'm 41. My everyday set was my grandparent's best stuff but I'm not a fan of stuff being kept for best so we've been using it every day for the past 4 years. It's a discontinued Royal Doulton design but there are loads of replacement pieces on eBay

wendywoopywoo222 · 07/02/2020 19:33

Mine are free ones that were given away in key markets around 40 years ago. Mum must of done a lot of shopping there as still has a big pile of new ones.
