Just bled thru trousers at work - help

God this is so embarrassing, I’m wearing dark grey jeans so thankfully not too obvious I don’t think and we have dark office chairs but I feel far too embarrassed to walk around as I usually would.

I have a female manager - do you think it’s cheeky if I ask to go home?

It’s an hour and a half commute each way so I don’t know if there’s much point in me coming back, plus I usually finish at 5 so worried she’ll think I’m taking the piss

If I were your manager I wouldn’t think it’s cheeky.

TheQueef · 06/02/2020 10:48

Cardi or sweater tied around waist?

Ughmaybenot · 06/02/2020 10:49

I wouldn’t say that’s cheeky. Take it as a half days holiday.

INeedNewShoes · 06/02/2020 10:49

Have you got a spare top or something you could tie around your waste.

With 1.5hr commute I'd avoid going home! Are there no shops nearby where you could nip out and buy some trousers? I had to do this once. From that point on I kept a spare pair of trousers and undies in my desk drawer!

Winterfellismyhome · 06/02/2020 10:49

Are there any shops around to get a new pair?

Dogsaresomucheasier · 06/02/2020 10:49

Could you work from home/make the time up?
Can you tie a cardigan round your waist?

Lordfrontpaw · 06/02/2020 10:50

Is there anywhere close you could nip out and buy some clean pants and trousers? That's a hell of a long round trip (unless you can ask to work from home)

HelloMist · 06/02/2020 10:50

Do you work near any shops? Could you go out and get some charity shop trousers (and extra pads if needed) then return to work?

BlastEndedSkrewt · 06/02/2020 10:51

just go out & buy a cheap top to tie around your waist or some similar trousers

xJune88 · 06/02/2020 10:51

Go speak to her, sure shell help you find a solution x

pappajonessecretchild · 06/02/2020 10:51

are you near any shops? it might be better to ask for half hour to nip out and buy some more trousers, if you are worried about asking for all day off, Although if i was you i would feel better going home for a shower. go and chat to the boss!

raspberryk · 06/02/2020 10:52

This happened to me once and I just popped to next in my lunch break, surely there will be a shop nearby.

ZeroFucks · 06/02/2020 10:52

If your manager is a woman I would take her aside and be really honest with her. Tell her you've bled through, you're embarrassed and uncomfortable.

If there's a shop near you, ask if you can pop out and get some new trousers and that you'll make up the time.

Otherwise, ask if you can take a half-day holiday given that you won't be able to get back in good time. Or ask to take the rest of the day off and make up another time.

I wouldn't tie a jumper or cardigan around your waist. It'll be completely obvious (to women at least) what's happened and it doesn't address your discomfort. I think you'll still feel uneasy and worried about it.

itshappened · 06/02/2020 10:53

If you can't see it, then I wouldn't worry too much. As a manager I would probably say yes to the request to go home, but I'd probably prefer you to request to go out to a shop first to get some new underwear and ideally some jeans too if that's feasible.

namechangepls5 · 06/02/2020 10:55

I’m not senior enough to work from home

We do have a few shops nearby but honestly I feel like freshening up properly, plus that’d be too awkward/obvious that I changed trousers (if it were a coffee spill chances are someone would just dry them and leave them on ifyswim)

I think I might pretend I only realised next time I pop to the loo, closer to lunch time, and say I’ll be happy to have a half day of leave removed or something Blush so scared she’ll think I’m taking the piss. I’ve only been here for over a month or so, still don’t know her that well

Meh. Sometimes we have to make do. Grab some cheap trousers and pants and a packet of wipes. It will do for the time being. I think it would be really bad to go home because you 'feel like' it. There is a way round it.

smashstore · 06/02/2020 10:58

I’ve only been here for over a month or so,

Then definitely go to the shop. I would be a bit Shock at a new staff member who went home unnecessarily tbh

Spam88 · 06/02/2020 10:58

I'd just ask her now. Not a chance I'd be carrying on at work with blood soaked through my trousers, and I certainly wouldn't be tying anything round my waist. Going to buy new trousers and underwear is probably a good compromise though - people are unlikely to notice I'd have thought.

dayowl · 06/02/2020 11:00

There’s no harm in asking. But do you have any cafes or supermarkets nearby, get some baby wipes and have a bit of a clean up in their loos.

INeedNewShoes · 06/02/2020 11:01

C'mon OP.

You've worked there for a month. You need to just deal with this and get through the day. As PP said, along with trousers/underwear, buy some wipes and that will have to do.

Your colleagues probably won't notice your change of attire, but they will notice someone sloping off half way through the day for no good reason!

Sammi38 · 06/02/2020 11:02

This has happened to me and I’ve just gone to the shop and bought some new knickers and trousers, within my lunch hour.

I’d definitely say about going to the shop, especially if lunchtime is soon. As you say you’ve only been there a month.

NoSquirrels · 06/02/2020 11:04

If I were you I would go and speak to her privately and explain. In this situation, I would 100% go and buy new underwear and trousers. You don't need to worry about your colleagues. I would not go home, on a train for 1.5 hours, in blood-soaked clothing.

Do you usually bleed heavily - is this unusual? If you feel faint etc then yes, you may have more of a claim for going home but otherwise it seems an over-reaction.

Seeline · 06/02/2020 11:05

Definitely go and buy replacements.

If anyone notices (which I doubt) you can easily say you spilt something, or they split/tore.

Wintersnowdrop · 06/02/2020 11:05

I’d ask to go to the shops and get new trousers and pants. You don’t need to go home, and it really isn’t a good work ethic to think that is ok.

Lordfrontpaw · 06/02/2020 11:06

I have nipped out and come back with a completely different outfit (wearing jeans then a big client meeting was dropped on me so I ran out and grabbed a dress from a nearby shop). No one batted an eye.

Poor you - it does sound uncomfortable. Same happened to me at a high school event (I was selling raffle tickets) - and wearing white trousers!
