How old were your kids when you could stay in your own bed undisturbed all night?

I'm not asking when your DC slept through as I know children aged five who still don't and it's just depressing. However- I try to console myself with the thought that if a five year old wakes they are self sufficient enough not to scream for their parents in the night? (Maybe.)

How old were your kids when you could go to bed, stay in your own bed and not need to get out until the morning?

Never?? They've never needed a wee or a drink or been sick or had a cough or a bad dream?

RefuseTheLies · 05/02/2020 22:34

My dd slept through from 4 weeks. She slept beautifully as a baby. It all went to shit when she was a toddler and she’s 4 now, in our bed most nights and generally takes her anything up to two hours to go back to sleep. I’m half dead.

LynetteScavo · 05/02/2020 22:35

DC3 was probably about 9 months...DC2 about 8, but he never bothered us.

DH is actually now worse than the DC ever were.

I was woken up at midnight last night by DC2 playing loudly on his x-box. He's 16.

Eldest was 2 but only after a night of putting her back in her own bed every time she got up. Youngest never came in to our bed and was able to self settle at about 9 months.

NatashaAlianovaRomanova · 05/02/2020 22:40

All 3 slept through from 8 weeks & up until they were around 2/3 this was in their own rooms in the years since then we've had occasional many sleepovers.

DD is now 18 & the rule is she's not allowed in my bed on fake tanning night Envy

Sally2791 · 05/02/2020 22:42

13 yrs

MrsPear · 05/02/2020 22:44

Mine don’t shout anymore but they have been know on occasion to want climb into bed with us and have a cuddle especially the eldest although I think he has anxiety issues at times. They are 7 and 10. As long as they start in their own bed and it’s not every night we just accept it. Many would argue that we shouldn’t but I think it is something you and partner - if you have one - decide upon.

RoseMartha · 05/02/2020 22:46

Well it hasnt happened yet. As one of my dc has asd and at 12 still wakes me most nights.

Gertie75 · 05/02/2020 22:53

As soon as they could reach the light switch when they needed a wee in the night, so around 3.

Mumof1andacat · 05/02/2020 22:54

Once he slept with me because dh was away for work but he didn't want to the next night as he liked his bed more. Never bed shared as a baby/toddler. Occasionally he might have a bad dream and he is comforted and then stays in his own bed. Never been ill at night and can get him self up to the loo. I might check on him if he uses the loo but again he goes back to his own bed. Ds is 7

Kahlua4me · 05/02/2020 22:59

Probably when they were about 9/10 and realised they could quietly do downstairs and watch tv undisturbed!

Both are now teenagers so will still come in now though if they felt ill or needed to talk but otherwise don’t bother us. Except weekday mornings dd brings us a cup of tea in bed which dh likes being woken up for...

13 unless they have a seizure

aibutohavethisusername · 05/02/2020 23:22

Age 11

Ilovelala · 05/02/2020 23:28

My daughter was probably 6 when she started taking herself to bed and staying there until the morning every day. From about 3 she would sleep in her own bed happily but would appear for various reasons throughout the night now and again. She was in my bed until aged 3.

greysunrise · 05/02/2020 23:29

1st= 3.5
2nd= 12 weeks
3rd= always has, we had to wake her for night feeds! Obviously it hasn't all been plain sailing, we've had the occasional bad night, she's 14 months now.

Superlooper · 05/02/2020 23:32

About 6 (unless they are sick or something)

Superlooper · 05/02/2020 23:32

6 years, that is

ColourMyDreams · 05/02/2020 23:58

Mine weren't allowed in my bed. They went into their siblings bedrooms from birth.

Pieceofpurplesky · 06/02/2020 00:13

DS is 16 and has just been in to me as he can't sleep - has been rambling on about something movie related for half an hour. He is a (diagnosed) insomniac as part of his dyspraxia. He never really slept!
He is back in bed now but sometimes comes in a few times to chat. Luckily I am also an insomniac and am generally awake!

SleightOfMind · 06/02/2020 00:17

My four finally understood about sleeping at 18 months or thereabouts and we’re rock solid after that. It was literally like a switch flicked.
As consolation, they were bloody awful sleepers before then.
The twins had me and DH on our knees.

soundsystem · 06/02/2020 00:21

4 and 2. Then we had DC3...

Twillow · 06/02/2020 00:24

Potentially when they move out...well into double digits already

honesttogod · 06/02/2020 00:25

I can't remember any of my children coming into my room during the night unless feeling ill. Always stayed in their own beds.
