Hey all, long time lurker first time poster here Wink

DD1 recently went vegan, so I’ve also decided to go vegan. I want to make sure we’re both getting all of the necessary vitamins and protein / calcium in & was wondering if anyone had any advice ?

TIA!

I think its great you want to support your DD Smile been thinking of going vegan myself but I'm a bit scared, don't think I can live without cheese! Grin How are you both finding it so far?

Ooh easy way to get supplements is the Vegan Society VEG 1 tablet, I also sometimes take iron (Feroglobin dissolvable tablets makes like a fizzy orange squash) but take my daily chewable tablet and it’s great. I’ve been vegan for 2 years :)

There's a Vegan board on MN where you'll find a lot of info/people in the know

Most alternative milks have added calcium (equivalent of semi skimmed milk) and vitamin D. Alpro yogurts do as well. Some cereals are fortified with iron and B12.
You should be combining incomplete plant-proteins to make complete proteins, which are what the body needs. For example, nuts or seeds with whole grains (peanut butter on whole wheat toast), beans with grains (beans and rice; hummus and pita bread; bean-based chili and crackers; refried beans and tortillas) and beans with nuts or seeds (salad with chickpeas and sunflower seeds). Don't get hung up on having to have a complete protein with every single meal. Instead, aim for variety in your whole day. Soy, whether it’s in the form of tofu, tempeh, or edamame beans, is a complete protein by itself. Quinoa is too.

I got sent a Bosh book which has lovely looking recipes in it.

Not tried any so far. But hopefully, soon!

Good luck. Smile

I got that a couple of weeks ago, I’ve tried the chilli cups and the guacaroni.
Both were pretty easy and tasty.
