Same lunch every day but different dinner?

I've just realised I am quite happy, and in fact look forward, to having the same lunch through the week. Cream of tomato soup every day this week, soft boiled eggs & marmite soldiers last week.

However having the same evening meal two days in a row seems boring and I rack my brains to think of 7 different 'main' meals each week.

No idea why this is - life would be so much easier if I could cook a big dish on a Sunday and eat it all week! Anyone else the same?

Me 🙋‍♀️ I do exactly this, people think it’s weird, but I’m happy, I’ve got chilli for lunch this week, and I’m planning something salady for next week

Ha I've never really thought about how ridiculous it is, but yes I wouldn't dream of serving up the same dinner two nights in a row (although I did used to when home alone) but generally have exactly the same thing for lunch for days on end.

I used to work with someone whose partner had had the same lunch every day for 7 years. Cheese and tomato sandwich - same bread, same cheese. He then made the monumental change to cheese and onion, and kept that up for another 3 years, and possibly beyond, I'm not sure as we lost touch. He could even have moved onto cheese and ham by now.

7 years? Lightweight.
Dh has had basically the same pack lunch every day since he first started making it for school. That's: cheese and lettuce sandwich, tomato, apple (same type) and a chocolate biscuit or a piece of home made cake.
He's been eating that for over 20 years now. Grin I don't mind as long as I don't have to either make or eat it.

SunshineDays2019 · 05/02/2020 18:01

Witchend, that so funny! Could you not swap his sandwich on April 1st and report back to us?! Grin

Witchend · 05/02/2020 21:49

I'm sure he'd eat it and say thank you.
He's a creature of habit though. 🤣

I often make a job lot of orzo pasta salad or roasted veg couscous to see me through the working week for speed reasons but I don’t ever eat the same meal twice in the same week!

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 05/02/2020 22:02

Every day at secondary school I would have a cheese savoury sandwich and a mars ice cream Grin

dimsum123 · 05/02/2020 22:10

One of Dads friends from school has been having the same packed lunch for 13 years now (they're 17). Cucumber and mayo wrap and a jammy dodger.

dimsum123 · 05/02/2020 22:11

DDs not dad's friend!

sneakythecat49 · 05/02/2020 22:12

Your lunch sounds lovely do you dip the soldiers in the soup? I've just seen marmite peanut butter in my Sainsbury's local that would be fabulous 😋

sneakythecat49 · 05/02/2020 22:14

Ah just reread you had the soup last week but still an option !

Waxonwaxoff0 · 05/02/2020 22:17

Me too! I always take soup and the same snacks to work for lunch. I do take different flavours for a bit of variety though. Grin

I usually have one of the same dinner 2 nights in a week, as it's just me and DS at home I make a family size portion so it lasts for 2 meals. Usually a mince based dish like bolognese or chilli.

dudsville · 05/02/2020 22:17

I buy a loaf of sliced bread, a pack of sliced cheese, and that's lunch for the week. Boring but I don't need excitement in my lunches at work! I also have the same thing for breakfast every work day. I don't want to take time to think and meal plan for these meals. I just need something that I enjoy reasonably well. I also snack on the same fruit and nuts. Dinners and non work day meals vary daily!

MsAwesomeDragon · 05/02/2020 22:18

Every day at primary school I had the same lunch: peanut butter sandwiches, a yoghurt, packet of skips and a carton of apple juice.

When I started secondary I moved on to school lunches and my parents thought it was great I was eating more variety. I had a cheese pasty, strawberry milkshake and a tray bake, every day, for the seven years of secondary school. I loved it. The primary school packed lunch was slightly healthier though.

I often eat the same lunch all week. Usually the same soup every week day. We quite often have the same main for a couple of days too, as dh does the cooking and would rather cook a big meal one day and then just reheat the following day. If he's willing to cook for me I'll eat whatever he places in front of me!

ClientQueen · 05/02/2020 22:21

I have the same lunch for weeks on end at work
Last month it was cheese, ham and tomato chutney sandwich. This week is cottage cheese on marmite rice cakes
I take different snacks but the "meal" bit can stay the same for months on end
Last summer it was feta salad with balsamic vinegar

sassafras123 · 05/02/2020 22:37

As a teen used to come home for lunch rather than the gross school dinners. It was always bread cheese and pickle followed by a jam doughnut. But now 40 years later still would love that for lunch

Tentativesteps133 · 06/02/2020 09:31

Sneaky - marmite soldiers with tomato soup sounds revolutionary!! Maybe next week...Grin
