Am I and idiot for doing this?

long story short.....

I got made redundant at xmas from my admin role'

I had an interview today for a telemarketing role (which tbf is an expensive commute and takes around 2hrs to get there and back)
It was through a recruitment agency and i felt like if i didn't go i'd be letting them down (I did mention i'd been offered a temp job in admin elsewhere covering mat leave but they pushed me to try the interview anyway).

As I went to get on the train I had a panic attack after re-reading the spec saying "some aspects of cold calling".that was it for me I've done telesales years back as a student to get me through uni. etc.

I literally just got off on the next stop. I feel like an absolute knob! I hate letting people down.

Not an idiot, read specs before the next interview and inform your agency you will not do any form of cold calling. You are setting your boundaries.

Nope.

Should have read it earlier and said no. I’d have gone for the practice but I’m shocking at interviews so need it! They’ll get over it.

collywobblescar · 05/02/2020 08:59

Nope I'd have done the same thing

I know, I normally read things with a fine tooth comb. Telesales is pftern cold calling but i thought this was a thing of the past due to legalities etc and they have to be general enquiries. The way they have worded it and located it on the spec etc at the bottom.

Meh. I’d it’s not what you want I wouldn’t worry. Spend the time looking for other jobs. Good luck!

puds11 · 05/02/2020 09:04

If not id

Isitrainingihadntnoticed · 05/02/2020 09:04

It's a bit crap to just not turn up on the day. Call the agency and the company to let them both know you won't be attending.

But it's fine to set boundaries and not waste peoples time interviewing for jobs you don't actually want, it you can afford to take your time looking for something suitable.

Don't let the agency pressure you into jobs/interviews you don't want, either. Make it very clear what you do and don't want. If they continue to try to pressure you, find another agency.
