Shoulder pain during early pregnancy

I've been having shoulder pain for a little over a week. A couple of days after it started, I found out I was pregnant. So of course I looked to see what could be the cause and saw that it could be ectopic. I had no other symptoms other than the shoulder pain though, so I figured I was just being paranoid. After it still wasnt getting better, I went to the ER to see if they could help. They took my weight and vitals, told me I could take tylenol and congratulations on being pregnant. Has anyone else gone through this? I go Thursday for a test and ultrasound. I'm trying not to freak out, but it's hard. Any thoughts?

I think you’ll just have to wait for the ultrasound because at this point it could be either. I know it’s easier said than done but try to put it out of your mind as much as possible. I hope it’s all ok.

Is the pain at the front of your shoulder, near the collar bone? That's the usual spot for gynae related issues.

Did they do any tests? Ultrasound? Blood test? Did they feel your tummy? If they did all that, I wouldn't worry.

Has it been getting worse?

If you have any other symptoms, increasing pain, abdo pain, nausea, sweating, anything, I'd go back. Otherwise, yes it's distressing but nothing you can do.

Other shoulder pain reasons? New/ awkward pillows? sport? Driving? It's possible that with the increase in relaxin hormone, you've pulled something.

Good luck!

I had this most days until about 25 weeks. The midwife wasnt remotely concerned when I told her! I now have a healthy 2 month old!

They didnt do any kind of tests. That what surprised me. The pain has eased up a bit, but it's still there. If calculations are right, I'm only about 5 weeks, but I'll find out more tomorrow hopefully. So fingers crossed everything is okay.

I never found out what it was, it did eventually go away and had a healthy baby boy in the end. I hope everything goes well for you ❤️
