How to avoid boredom when off sick

I've been signed off work for 2 weeks initially. It is likely to be longer than this as my urgent hospital appointment for the issue is after the initial 2 weeks off.

What sort of things can I do to keep me occupied? I'm not able to eat much and have fainted a couple of times so it needs to not be food related or particularly physical.

I've ordered some colouring for mindfulness books which will arrive tomorrow and have been watching Call the Midwife on Netflix. I am feeling a bit bored already and would be grateful for ideas.

Can you knit or crochet? Listen to audiobooks/ podcasts?
Jigsaws? sudoku/crosswords?
Films

Last time my sister was booked off sick (for medical treatment) she made sure it was during Wimbledon (she loves tennis).

Lots of old films, good books and some sewing (with the radio) does it for me.

One of those jobs that you never get round to doing.......

things like:

  • looking through all the photos you've taken, getting some printed - then label and date them and put them into albums
  • going through your 'paperwork' folder / filing cabinet and shredding stuff you don't need anymore
-checking you are on the best rates for your utilities (or saving account if you have or debt if you have) -tipping out 'THE drawer' in the kitchen and having a good sort out

or get super ahead of yourself - buy and write Birthday cards for the next 6 months Grin or write your Christmas cards

Can you do some gentle exercise - just to make sure you keep your limbs moving (obviously this will depend on your ailment)

Thanks these are great ideas. Audiobooks would be great to just lie with my eyes shut and listen too. I might also finally get our wedding photos printed Smile

I'm off on long term sick and I'm doing a course with vision2learn.com.

Isn't that what Mumsnet is for?
