Supermarket stupidity ...

So to lift the mood from Brexiteers dying of Coronavirus or whatever this weeks doomsaying is about, just thought I'd leave a silent scream here about a couple of annoyances from yesterday ...

Looking for a piece (well 2 actually) or braising steak. Asked at meat counter, and was shown a tray of diced steak. Had they got any undiced. No. They'd diced it all up Hmm - and then looked put out when I walked away empty handed ...

..to the bakery counter. Where I wanted a larger unsliced loaf. None on display. Asked for one. Oh no, they'd sliced them all up and put them out. Again, customer being always right, I left empty handed there too.

(I wonder when they'll start opening tins and packers "for convenience" ?)

I decided not to name the supermarket to see if others mention it, or whether they are all like that Grin

Ah, OP, as soon as I read 'multiseeded loaf' I knew this was Sainsbury’s. Ours sometimes slice all of the bloody things too. Just NO! You can ask for an unsliced loaf to be sliced, you can't stick a sliced one back together. 🙄

My worry is that even thinking about it, let alone letting slip I like it, could lead to it being disappeared Sad. Mainly because years of hunting high and low (as only someone who remembers A-Ha could type grin]) have shown there's nothing remotely close. Not from any other supermarket, nor any of the rather poncy artisan "bakeries" that are around at the moment. (Although I did come away with a few meringues the size of icebergs to save an otherwise wasted journey.)

SerendipityJane I'm lucky enough to have a good local butcher, where I can still get a nice fat pork chop with the kidney attached and the rind still on (though I often take the rind off and cook it separately for crackling😍). He'll also invite you round his side of the counter to look at a carcass and decide exactly which bit you want him to cut off! Can't get a decent loaf here for love nor money though.

@SerendipityJane

I reckon you might well be my long-lost-separated-at-birth-twin.

Pork chops with a bit of kidney! *nostalgic sigh

We are our local S'bury top buyer of tinned mushy peas. Not sure if ashamed of our weekly fish & chips habit, or insanely proud of this remarkable achievement.

It seems I'm going to have to do some more work on being happy for others than I realised Grin
