Mother getting deafer and isolated

My mother is in her 80s and getting really deaf and she starting to become quite isolated as a result. Declining invitations and giving up activities. She has hearing aids but I think they're just not cutting it anymore, especially in group settings. She's also trying to learn to read lips but finding it hard.

Just wondering if anyone's parents got a cochlear implant as they got older and how much it helped? She's quite physically fit for her age.
