Coming off fluoxetine

I have been on fluoxetine for around three years now and want to come off it. Has anyone come off without bad withdrawals? And am I likely to lose any of the weight I have put on. Thanks

DD came off fluoxetine last year. She saw the GP who gave her the following advice:

Cut down from two tablets daily to one a day for a couple of weeks.
Cut down to half a tablet a day for a couple of weeks - this was tricky because they were capsules, so DD was prescribed it in liquid form.
Take the equivalent of half a capsule every other day for a couple of weeks.
Then stop altogether.

DD had no withdrawal symptoms

She didn't put much weight on, and as she was underweight to start with it didn't do her any harm. She hasn't lost any weight since coming off it, but she hasn't tried to.

Good luck

Fluoxetine has always made me lose rather than gain weight, so I can't answer that. But like the PP, I'd advise cutting down very gradually.

I came off it no problem, starting again a year later was horrible, so be very sure you want to finish it.

I came off it by cutting down gradually and then just stopping. No side effects at all for me.

Please take advice from your GP. It is really important to come off under medical supervision and really slowly.

I did it completely the wrong way. I ran out of tablets and never went back for another prescription. Bad. However I had no ill effects, and while I still have the odd bad day (as I still did while taking them) I actually feel much better and more mentally robust for some reason.
