Sick of the auto correct and something I reply to a post then go back to it and it gobbledygook

If you’re using an iPhone (and possibly other phones) the double dash thing automatically corrects it to — , which won’t make the strike work.

There's a way you can turn that off in your settings I think. I can't remember how to do it though, sorry.

It's a bloody pain DramaAlpaca - I wish they'd set something up.

GenuineKlatchianPottery · 01/02/2020 17:59

I find it easier to just select the italic button below the message box and select the styling options that way.
@BritneyPeedOnALadybug thank you so much for that. I’m another whose phone wouldn’t allow me to strike through

iklboo · 01/02/2020 18:50

Found it!

this shortcut can be toggled using the switch labeled 'Smart Punctuation' in General > keyboard settings.

Turn off smart punctuation and you can double dash (and cross out).

BritneyPeedOnALadybug · 01/02/2020 19:49

@iklboo
Unfortunately turning that option off also means that your phone won’t automatically put apostrophes in words, add full stops, curve speech marks, etc, for you.

iklboo · 01/02/2020 19:52

@BritneyPeedOnALadybug - oh I hadn't realised that. Mine still puts apostrophes in and I double tap the space bar for a full stop? I wonder if my phone's realised I'm an apostrophe fiend and had learned Grin

You can ask Mumsnet Towers to remove or edit things such as a thread title.

FruityWidow · 01/02/2020 21:13

How hard is it to read what you've written before hitting send?

Porkeypine · 02/02/2020 18:29

What if you re-read and preview it then post it then realised you wanted to add something in context?!

Any time you want to change after posting you need to make another post with the addition/correction. Once you've posted, you can't edit.
