Son has a fairytale ball at school on weds. Said he didnt want to dress up for weeks. Ok no probs.

Now he wants to go as the woodcutter from little red riding hood. Ok cool. We have the relevant clothes for this... no axe. And i cant find where i could buy one without having to order on ebay..

Any ideas? Thank you

Make one - a stick and some tin foil folded repeatedly!

Have you put 'toy axe' in to google?

THAT90sBITCH · 01/02/2020 07:33

I bought an inflatable one last year on amazon. It was terrible

JigsawsAreInPieces · 01/02/2020 07:33

Make one out of cardboard and silver foil.

Trumpton · 01/02/2020 07:33

Make one with rolled up newspaper ,masking tape to hold , painted or felt tipped brown and a tin foil axe head ?

Apologies if you feel it’s not your sort of thing and would prefer to buy one .

I've done something similar to this before, used a wooden sword turned upside down as the handle, cut out the blade out of cardboard, taped it on then covered blade in silver wrapping paper et voila an ace!

cjt110 · 01/02/2020 07:48

Awesome. Thanks all!

Have looked at wilko, argos, b&m.. none seem to stock them and they seem to be fancy dress only really.

Rolles up newspaper is a fab idea then papier mache (spelling!) To make the handle bumpy. Dry and paint brown and the tinfoil over cardboard the the tip 🎉🎊👌

*axe

Make it. Cardboard covered in foil. Tape it to a wooden spoon or similar.

cjt110 · 01/02/2020 07:50

As daft as it sounds DH doesnt think school would let him take something with a wooden handle into school. Hmmmm

Gives us an activity to do on this wild and windy day!

Could you use a wooden mixing spoon, but shape the foil around the base to pad it out so more axe like in thickness? Add carboard metal axe part, and spray paint brown handle and silver metal?

Make this.

Inforthelonghaul · 01/02/2020 08:17

Bind together some kitchen roll tubes in brown tape and cardboard wrapped in foil for the head tied in with string.

TerrifiedandWorried · 01/02/2020 08:21

I had to make an axe for a play at the school I work in. When constructing the handle go for thick cardboard scored in 4x 1 inch strips. Make it a triangular prism. It will be so much stronger than trying to make a tube.

Reminds me of the Pirate Day my ds had at school when he was 7yo. They sent a message home saying "no replica weapons, please."
Ds looked at this and said: "So real ones are fine then." Grin

My tip is don't make the end too heavy or it may fall off.

@cjt110
How did the axe turn out ?
