Anyone have an ottoman bed?

Thinking of getting a super king ottoman bed, but I'm really not sure.... Are they ridiculously heavy to lift? Is there loads of storage, or not as much as you'd hoped?
Have only been able to see doubles in the shop so not got a proper idea of a super king.
Thanks for any feedback.

I've got a double but it's a spring mechanism so no lifting at all once you release the latch.
And so much more storage than I thought there would be!!
Mine is Ikea.

BWcastle2000 · 31/01/2020 22:41

I have a king size one. Really easy to lift it and put it back down again. It has lots of storage, takes all my towels, bedding etc and I still have plenty of room left.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 31/01/2020 22:43

We have the ikea one. It’s great and offers loads of extra storage.

Yes we have a super king from Feather and Black. It’s amazing, takes a bit of strength to lift but it has a pneumatic hinge type thing to help. We stored all the kids Christmas presents under there, highly recommend otherwise it’s such an underused space.

Woeisme99 · 31/01/2020 22:45

Oooh all sounding positive so far!
I've just looked at Ikea (I assumed they still did awkward sized beds but see they do UK standard no, fab) but they only go to king, I've my heart set on a super king, the extra room to get away from DH snoring may be a marriage saver Envy (not envy)

We have one and it's great. So much storage. I store summer/winter clothes, bedding and toiletries in mine. It's easy to lift too. Its king size. Feel like it uses otherwise wasted space. Couldn't be without it.

Stroan · 31/01/2020 22:47

Also have a superking one, once you lift it the first few inches the pneumatic mechanism kicks in and takes the strain. We store huge amounts under there, spare duvets, all the DCs old clothes, Christmas decorations, engagement and wedding gifts from 13 years ago....

Sgtmajormummy · 31/01/2020 22:49

Yes, we have one and the recent addition of two orthopedic mattresses means the pistons can’t cope with the weight. So I need help or hold it up with my back while I’m rooting around underneath!
However the massive amount of storage is a great thing to have.

MeOldBamboo · 31/01/2020 22:49

Yes it is brilliant! Easy to lift and massive amount of storage. We got ours from Carpetright, Sleepezee I think. And it was interest free credit as well.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 31/01/2020 22:57

We have a superking ottoman bed. Very easy to lift and tonnes of storage. The extra few inches have without doubt saved our marriage...

Isadora2007 · 31/01/2020 22:59

We’ve a king size piston one from bensons for beds. It stores all my Christmas stuff including the tree.

BorneoBabe · 31/01/2020 23:49

We're getting rid of ours. It's too much effort to move it each week (weighs a ton) to hoover underneath.

The storage was great though when we had limited space elsewhere.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 31/01/2020 23:53

What? Hoover underneath it?? Ours hasn't moved or been hoovered under since it was put in 10 years ago Confused

Tombakersscarf · 31/01/2020 23:56

I've always had divans with drawers - the stuff I keep in them is slightly - not mouldy, but damp? Are ottomans the same?

MrsEsss · 01/02/2020 00:00

Ours has a removable bottom so if I have the desire to hoover underneath (rare) I just take open it, take the bottom out and hoover the carpet. I couldn't move it; they're really heavy.

coastcypress · 01/02/2020 00:05

We have a king size bed and it's great. It stores loads, and keeps it all hidden away unlike just stashing stuff under a normal bed. I'm quite strong but I do find it a bit of a faff to open it, so I wouldn't use it for things you need regularly (like every other day), but it's fine for stuff that you might need every few weeks or less often. It's heavy enough that I couldn't have lifted it post c-section.

We've never moved ours either - occasionally we'll sweep a duster under it to get the dust and toys out. The space under it is too narrow for a hoover or broom to fit under.

Tombakersscarf · 01/02/2020 00:18

Are you supposed to hoover under beds? I do remember removing our last bed after 10 years in that house and it was a bit of a surprise what all had found its way underneath. Envy

Snozzlemaid · 01/02/2020 00:27

Why on earth would you move a bed every week to hoover under it?

Snozzlemaid · 01/02/2020 00:30

We've got one and it's not difficult or heavy to lift up at all. Loads of storage. It's great to be able to hide so much stuff away.
I find ours harder to close down than open as it's quite high and you have to pull or push it down quite hard so takes a lot of strength.

Rosecottage888 · 01/02/2020 00:32

We have a double ottoman, spring fittings so not heavy. DS has a small double with the same fittings, both loads of storage space and both bought from groupon for an absolute bargain

AlexaAmbidextra · 01/02/2020 01:53

I have a king sized ottoman. As others have said, it has a pneumatic lift so it’s easy. It holds far more and is far easier to use than those beds we all had with drawers underneath. The only problem is, every time I open mine the cat jumps in and I have to wrangle her out. 😹

AlexaAmbidextra · 01/02/2020 01:57

What? Somebody hoovers under their bed every week? Faints with horror. 😱

BorneoBabe · 01/02/2020 05:11

Carpet moths.

Woeisme99 · 03/02/2020 10:02

Thanks for all the advice, MN is always so helpful.
Has anyone actually had carpet moths? I come from a long line of slatterns and don't know of anyone who EVER moves the bed to hoover, but nor have I heard of any carpet moth infestations. Is this a British thing?

I've got a double Sleepezee one. It's brilliant.
