A thread for those who are sad we are leaving the EU today

What will you miss about being an EU member state? Do you plan to join any campaign to re-join? What worries you about Brexit or do you think it will be okay?

I will miss being a part of something bigger than us and being in immediate cooperation with our friends and neighbours, I am worried about the direction our country will now take, and also about the negative economic impact of leaving.

Wine Never gone into a new (misguided) era quietly drunk before. Best way I reckon.

DappledThings · 31/01/2020 22:50

Less than 15 minutes
I have that horrible feeling in my stomach of fear and nerves. And there's a tiny, tiny part of me that thinks there's going to be some Hollywood intervention. That someone is going to run in waving a document that shows leaving is illegal, that there's some kind of injunction.

I know that isn't really going to happen. I'm just so desperately sad about it that I'm fantasizing madly.

I'm going to cry. Can't decide whether to turn the radio on because it's such a big moment or whether to stay in silence because it's almost unbearable

Vinorosso74 · 31/01/2020 22:50

Sad I'm going to bed.

BigRedFlower · 31/01/2020 22:53

I am wearing my I'm still European t shirt and eu beret

WingDefence · 31/01/2020 22:54

DH and I have been shouting at the TV at the news - I’m sick of seeing ‘celebrations’ with just lip service given to those who are apparently sad about this whole situation. We’ve got Newsnight on now.

Spieluhr · 31/01/2020 22:57

I'm quietly mourning, while listening to my favourite band who happen to be German and avoiding the news, as I'll be doing for the next week or so.

highlandcoo · 31/01/2020 22:59

I had to turn it off. Can't bear to hear Nigel Farage and Ann Widdecombe at the moment.

We have many European friends and they have been lovely to us, and have said we will always still be welcome in their countries, but they are bemused at the decision.

Very sad day indeed Sad

DappledThings · 31/01/2020 23:02

Well. There we go. I'm quietly crying.

Fuck.

Sossadtoday · 31/01/2020 23:05

Me too 😭😭

TattiePants · 31/01/2020 23:06

I'm crying too (and not very quietly!)

DappledThings · 31/01/2020 23:07

My son was 4 months old when we had the vote. I listened so some of the early results when he woke for a feed in the early hours and cried then. Couldn't believe it would really happen though.

crankysaurus · 31/01/2020 23:12

I've held it off all day but now feel tremendously hollow. We've left.

newlifenewme2020 · 31/01/2020 23:12

I cried when the vote came in and I am crying now. While idiots set of fireworks. I know 8 people who voted for brexit.
3 honestly think it’s the best thing after researching it
5 are racist arseholes who did so we could close our boarders and get all the foreigners out
I have no malice towards the first 3 at all

Sakura7 · 31/01/2020 23:12

Another Irish poster here. Sorry to see it has come to this, and I really feel for everyone in the UK who tried their best to fight against this madness.

The news channels reporting on the 'celebrations' are pretty depressing, we're watching The Last Leg instead.

Cakemonger · 31/01/2020 23:17

Cannot get over how utterly stupid this whole thing is. Pointless. Detrimental. A complete waste of money and time.

What a f**k up.

MrsBobBlackadder · 31/01/2020 23:20

I feel like I've lost part of myself tonight.

newlifenewme2020 · 31/01/2020 23:22

Boris will prob come out and say all anti brexit talk will now be treason.
Sorry but I am first in the queue to shout “Told you so dicks” with a slow handclap when we are all fucked.

I hope to god I am wrong but leaving Europe with that arsehole in charge!!! Na

Sossadtoday · 31/01/2020 23:27

That Guardian piece 😢🇪🇺

Anxious1013 · 31/01/2020 23:59
