A thread for those who are sad we are leaving the EU today

What will you miss about being an EU member state? Do you plan to join any campaign to re-join? What worries you about Brexit or do you think it will be okay?

I will miss being a part of something bigger than us and being in immediate cooperation with our friends and neighbours, I am worried about the direction our country will now take, and also about the negative economic impact of leaving.

Ok stupid question .... (not as stupid as "shall we leave the EU?!") but was that video actually projected onto the cliffs? And would you have been able to see it across the channel?

scutters off to open charcuterie

Feeling sad here too, my lovely 4 day old is making me feel better though! My settled status application is pending, I'm getting together the documents for the DCs Italian passports so I've done all I can.

I just want to say grazie to the majority of posters on the brexit threads, especially the westminstenders, when the news made me feel like I wasn't wanted here, they reminded me that for lots of UK people we'll always be friends and neighbours.

CloudPop · 31/01/2020 13:36

I'm incredibly sad about it. And I don't think I will ever stop being angry about it.

WingDefence · 31/01/2020 13:39

tellme knowing the Led By Donkeys lot, yes I assume they really did project it onto the cliffs. No idea if it could be seen from the continent but probably not?!

JuneFromBethesda · 31/01/2020 13:45

@CloudPop

Same here

DappledThings · 31/01/2020 13:54

That LedByDonkeys video was wonderful

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 31/01/2020 13:58

Wing, yes probably not as likely as me getting crushed in a rainbow unicorn stampede tomorrow morning Grin

Still angry and very, very sad. I will never forgive those who were complicit in this.

Scautish · 31/01/2020 14:09

Agree with all the sentiment here: gutted for my kids, angry with the ignorance and racism that’s led to this. Really worried - especially with Putin to our east (the UKs new boss) and Trump to our west.

It’s so fucking bleak.

highlandcoo · 31/01/2020 14:21

I'm generally depressed and wondering what will happen to Scotland now, we might end up breaking away entirely which I was previously opposed to.

Me too TabbyM. I don't live in Scotland at the moment but ever since the referendum result I've felt I should move back to where my values fit better with the majority. I didn't want independence but I think it will probably happen now Sad

I help at an old people's lunch club on Thursdays, and yesterday one of the other volunteers arrived with a bunch of Union Jacks and some Union Jack bowler hats. Her plan was to play Rule Britannia and get the old people to sing and wave flags. It didn't occur to her for a second that the assumption that everyone was as delighted as her might be wrong.

I left before the flag-waving started. When I told her I felt really sad and worried about the future she was bemused.

catanplayer · 31/01/2020 16:16

Sad here too. I never thought it would actually happen. I don't know many leavers, but the ones I know still sound really angry. If I say I'm not happy about it, they tell me I'm anti British. That we just need to get it done etc Tbh I don't feel very British today... I'll cling on to my French great great grandmother!

hibiscuswater · 31/01/2020 16:23

I went to do my mother's shopping this morning, as I was getting her newspaper the person behind me said 'it's got a good front cover hasn't it' - well no, not if you didn't want Brexit, no. I had to say something.

Redcrayons · 31/01/2020 16:30

On a lighter note, a nurse friend posted a picture of a suitcase saying she was going to take it to work for all the extra cash she'll be paid out of the £350m the NHS would be getting tomorrow.

drivingtofrance · 31/01/2020 16:31

I daren't speak to anyone today.

The local pub is offering a free drink to all at 11pm - whether Remainer or Leaver
. I think we're safer staying home as I may get quite ragey.

Guineapigbridge · 31/01/2020 16:35

I was an Erasmus student 12 years ago. I lived the feeling of a connected Europe, with a common outlook.
I'm a kiwi so it doesn't really affect me other than that.

MoonriseKingdom · 31/01/2020 16:45

Feeling very sad here too.

Sad that my children will lose their rights and opportunities within Europe.
Sad that many valued colleagues in the NHS have been made to feel unwelcome.
Sad at the inevitable brain drain as we lose access to European funding for research.

And really very bloody worried about whatever awful deal we are going to do with the US that will likely see an increase in the cost of drugs to the NHS and the lowering of food standards.
