No appetite days?

I’m desperately trying to put on weight after illness. I’m looking utterly scrawny.

Going well but then, like today, no appetite. None whatsoever. Otherwise feeling 100% fine. I have had before though. Just a random day of zilch appetite. May last tomorrow or may be fine. Never more than 2 days. I’m forcing myself to eat to maintain the momentum, but it is hard and seems counter intuitive because of the absence of any kind of appetite for it!

Anyone else? Any reasoning you can think of!

I'm over training on exercise at the mo stupidly. My appetites gone. I'm also on a few meds. Go. To the doctor if your worried

If you are well enough, get out and about walking, or something else you enjoy. Perhaps you can work up an appetite.

Get up early, do a 30 minute run. Have a high carb breakfast. That should get your juices flowing. The more you eat the better. Try calorie dense foods such as honey, peanut butter, dried fruit, nuts/legumes, cream, jam, chocolate spread, bread and butter.

Yes, I get this. I'm also underweight and do a lot of exercise but some days I just can't get the calories in, or like you have days when I have no appetite at all. Even my favourite foods don't tempt me.

I find a protein shake helps as you can drink the calories. Look for a mass gaining one which will contain protein and carbohydrates you need to recover and rebuild after illness. Try a chocolate shake with full fat milk and a tablespoon of peanut butter for extra calories. Or a berry flavoured one with greek yoghurt and fresh or frozen berries.

I've also been known to eat peanut butter straight from the jar when trying to gain weight Blush

Greek yoghurt is also easy to digest, with granola and honey and berries.

Also plain old chocolate milk is good too.

Just realised my suggestions are useless if you can't tolerate dairy though Grin

Thanks for thoughts

I am a keen runner and I do find that whilst initially following a run - no appetite, it definitely results in increased appetite later.

Anyway - this morning went for a run, just done school run and I detect stirrings of hunger. So going to leverage it and go home and have a great big bowl of porridge and banana - delisch!

I drink Huel quite a bit when I can't face/haven't got time for a meal. It does fill me up. And it has a lot of added vitamins.
