Colonoscopy prep question - help!

Blimeyoreilly2020 · 30/01/2020 13:26

Sorry for the 🤢 subject!! Have been given moviprep and instructions for a colonoscopy tomorrow. The instructions given (which I’ve been following) only pertained to today/tomorrow. Having just looked for a bit more info online apparently usual instructions are to also eat a low fibre diet 48hours beforehand - which I didn’t because it doesn’t say to in the literature I was given😬. Have I ruined it? Can anyone reassure me? Thanks!

You haven't ruined it just make sure you drink ALL the moviprep. By the end what is coming out of you should basically be wee. Not pleasant. I have them yearly and was told they can give you a laxative prior to your colonoscopy if you still think you nerd more. Good luck:)

My mum has one on Monday. She has to have low fibre diet Friday and Saturday, then clear liquids only Sunday.
It might depend on what they are looking for. In mums case they looking for a bleed in the stomach so need it to be completely clear.
Good luck.

Don't worry, you can only do what you can do now. Worst case scenario is that your bowel might not be completely clear and that they can't get the best pictures. I had this one time but they still saw enough to complete the test.

The moviprep will probably do the job and all will be fine! Good luck and hope all goes well

I had an afternoon appointment and my instructions were low fibre the day before only and stop eating at 12 the day before. I was told I had done a really good job with the prep and was more than 95%clear.

Thanks - will just carry on & hope for the best! In at crack of dawn tomorrow (pun intended, sort of😁). Had low fibre breakfast of eggs & croissant and now sinking water till start moviprep at 6pm. Not looking forward to dealing with that and three kids this evening but needs must😫. Just read somewhere that Foxes Glacier mints and jelly babies are acceptable to be eaten....can anyone confirm?...my day might not be looking so miserable after all?!!🙏🏻

I have no idea about the glacier mints, but definitely not jelly babies, as you should only have clear things. Personally I'd skip the glacier mints too, as I was told only clear liquids. Hope someone with more knowledge will be along to advise you soon. And good luck.

Well no. It won’t basically be wee. It should be clear fluid though, albeit from the bowel.

AlexaAmbidextra · 30/01/2020 14:58

You can have jelly with no fruit in it. Also you can make a hot drink with an Oxo cube.

I would call them OP, you'll have the number on your letters. If the bowel prep isn't done properly they will likelu just have you do it sll over again and repeat the procedure if the bowel isn't clear, though it depends what they are looking for/at I suppose.

Usually you do have to observe several days adjusted diet then clear liquids. Was this not discussed in your pre- assessment? I'm sure they have to if its required. I'd call OP, they're the only ones that will know for sure what is required for you specifically.

I'd grab a pack of moist toilet tissue wipes and some vaseline (for you know where). Its unpleasant (albeit tolerable) but those will help avoid extra soreness.

onemouseplace · 30/01/2020 15:07

It'll be fine - my consultant only says to have a low residue breakfast the day before then clear liquids the day before the procedure, nothing about the days before.

I tend to survive on clear broth, apple juice and clear jelly for the rest of the day.

NotHereToMakeFriends · 30/01/2020 15:09

I just didn't eat when I started taking the moviprep and with that much liquid I didn't feel hungry so you should be fine. I would avoid eating anything if possible including mints. Your bowels need to be completely clear.

I didn't have soreness afterwards and it wasn't unpleasant it was just weird.

Thanks to everyone who responded! I did by the glacier mints but didn’t eat any!! Survived a night of moviprep with 3 kids with only one of them noticing (told them I ate a dodgy prawn...didn’t want them worrying!). DH pitched up from work at 2am🙄 but is now on his way to get me. As people suggested the procedure was fine, and the bacon sarnie & tea after utterly awesome😁
