Tell him to flush

cuckooken · 30/01/2020 08:18

Tel him to flush the toilet.

AllTheCakes · 30/01/2020 08:20

We have the same problem. If we flush it wakes the baby so inevitably urine is left in the bowl overnight.

Get some toilet bowl tablets from B&M and put one down every week.

You keep a loo nice by cleaning it.

I always wonder about this, it comes up often. Do you not flush the toilet after your baby has gone to bed? Do you tip toe about all evening?

Sonichu · 30/01/2020 08:21

Why doesn't he flush the toilet?!

raisinseverywhere · 30/01/2020 08:22

If he’s not flushing for environmental reasons, then that doesn’t make sense as you’ll probably have to use extra cleaning products every morning to clean it.

TeddyIsaHe · 30/01/2020 08:23

I don’t flush the loo for wee, if you’re hydrated it’s barely yellow. Got to think of the planet!

I use citric acid in the loo to get rid of limes ale - just shove a handful in overnight and a good scrub in the morning. Then essential oils dripped in to the water leaves it smelling lovely.

Citric acid has its own environmental impact.

Just put a squirt of bleach round the bowl before you go to bed.

Ariela · 30/01/2020 09:03

When you go to bed, pop a Harpic tablet (come in a black box) in the loo. It turns the water blue but really helps remove the limescale which is what is turning yellow

TeddyIsaHe · 30/01/2020 09:15

@cuckooken the only evidence of that I’ve found is if it’s used as an outdoor cleaning solution, or to treat weeds. Too much acidity in the soil kills plants.

It’s widely used as an eco-friendly cleaner. Along with vinegar which is along the same lines. It biodegrades very quickly so there is no negative impact.

If you have any evidence to the contrary of that I’d love to see it!

PenelopeFlintstone · 31/01/2020 06:14

This has got me wondering how noisy is everyone’s plumbing? 🤔

HowlsMovingBungalow · 31/01/2020 06:21

Just flush it in the am? Not sure what the issue is?

Fairylea · 31/01/2020 06:25

We have a son with autism who wakes at the slightest thing. We have a toilet downstairs we use when he’s asleep but during the night if we use the one upstairs we don’t flush otherwise it just wakes him up- and then he’s up for the day even if it’s 3/4/5am! I’ve actually never found it’s made it dirtier, I put bleach down both toilets every day and scrub with a toilet brush - I buy the cheapest ones from Tesco for about £3 and replace often. Admittedly not winning any prizes for eco friendliness but I’m sure other people do things that are worse / equate to the same ....!

Otter46 · 31/01/2020 06:26

Same as above, we just flush in the morning. No big deal! I don’t find I need to extra clean it or anything?

Nquartz · 31/01/2020 06:27

We don't flush overnight either (would wake people) I clean weekly & then leave some cleaver in for as long as possible afterwards, bleach probably monthly (squirt some round & leave as long as possible, usually when we're out).

This is a relatively new toilet though & have been doing this since we got it. The one from when we moved in never seemed that clean despite doing all that.

MindyStClaire · 31/01/2020 06:46

We don't flush overnight either as it sometimes wakes the toddler and frankly it's not worth the risk (for whoever asked - we can flush downstairs no problem, so it's just if either of us get up during the night and can't be bothered going downstairs).

But we have no problems with the loo not being clean? We have a cleaner who comes once a week and chucks some bleach down, and a toilet brush (I know MN!) used as needed. That's the height of it.

HowlsMovingBungalow · 31/01/2020 06:49

I don't get the MN obsession with toliet cleaning. Bleach and brush it isn't fucking rocking science.

HowlsMovingBungalow · 31/01/2020 06:49

Is it really making the toilet that bad? We don’t flush at night but by flushing at the weekend and using bleach a couple of times a week it’s fine. There’s always those cistern blocks or the ones you put round the edge of the toilet too; I have those so maybe that’s why mine is fine

BirdieFriendBadge · 31/01/2020 06:53

We don't flush for wees at night.

It won't stain the toilet unless there's limescale build up. So make sure your toilet is totally clean.

When we moved in I had to empty the water from the bottom of the toilet and put limescale remover on it.

But now it's always white. And I only scrub it a couple of times a week.
