What 'vintage' clothes do you have?

As in not expensive pieces but things from Primark - and even C&A, New Look etc, that you paid peanuts for and have lasted forever.

I got rid of some old C&A stuff last year when I had a clear out but I have 2 towelling, knee length, hooded robes bought in Sheffield in the latish 90s. One blue, one white. The white one stays in my guest room (and my sister uses it half a dozen times a year) but I have used the blue one daily every spring and autumn for over 20 years now. It's a bit faded but still perfectly serviceable. Also random PJs over the last 20 years that I still wear but nothing else as old that is still in regular use.

Can you beat it? Grin

They were £4 each if I remember correctly, ... maybe less

I have a brown T-shirt I sleep in which says I am McLovin from the film Superbad. It's about 15 years old I think

Flummingbird · 29/01/2020 21:42

I have a C&A coat in my attic, I bought it with the money I got for my 21st (think it was £25) and I was 40 last year. I refuse to get rid of it even though it'll be a couple of sizes too small now. It's calf length and long black fake fur. I call it my yeti skin...

SpeedofaSloth · 29/01/2020 21:47

My favourite coat is 10 years old. It's Planet but bought from an outlet place for about £70. It will be dry cleaned around Easter then put away for next winter.

My boots are Clarks, bought in the sale also about 10 years ago. They've been resoled and reheeled a few times, and I will get the elastic replaced soon. I still expect to be wearing them next winter too.

I have a Hobbs skirt which is over 12 years old and still irons up well enough to wear for work.

managedmis · 29/01/2020 21:51

I have a blue Lévis polo neck - it's at least 20 years old. Cost about £15 I think.

Also got a Lévis denim jacket - £63.

managedmis · 29/01/2020 21:52

Jacket is same age, approx

deste · 29/01/2020 21:54

I have a skirt and jacket from the eighties and a dress from the seventies. I have a coat from C&A bought in Amsterdam about twenty years ago.

NorthEndGal · 29/01/2020 21:54

I picked this dress in a Sally Ann for less than 10.00, years ago. It feels so comfy without looking slobby.

What 'vintage' clothes do you have?

I have a fake leopard coat which belonged to my grandmother: about 60s I would guess.

Also a purple flowery blouse I bought from Fenwicks in 1985, and a polyester top from Miss Selfridges in the early 90s. Still fits!

mermaidbutmytailfelloff · 29/01/2020 21:54

I am this minute wearing a levi jacket which i bought in Binns in 1980. Cant remember what I paid. I also have two jackets that were my mums, a leather one from the 60's and a jaeger jacket from the mid 70s. The Jaegar one was £40, and I recall it was eyewateringly expensive! If she had known I would still wear it over 40 years later she would have considered it a bargain!

justasking111 · 29/01/2020 21:55

are they vintage if they date back to 80s and 90s?

TheQueenBeyondTheWall · 29/01/2020 21:55

That's a gorgeous dress. Looks lovely.

I'm saving all my vintage for my daughter it will be back in fashion by then Grin

TheQueenBeyondTheWall · 29/01/2020 21:56

Your man in that pic looks so in love!

goldenorbspider · 29/01/2020 21:57

What a lovely dress! I've got some quite a few vintage wool blazers. I think they're timeless. Windsmoor midi skirts.

Sarahlou63 · 29/01/2020 22:03

I'm still wearing a Levis sweatshirt that I bought when I was 17. I'm 57 in August....

QueenofallIsee · 29/01/2020 22:04

I have a Miss Sixty electric blue leather biker jacket circa 2001. Dated looking now but I reckon in a renaissance so have kept hold of it. I have several original 90s concert and festival t shirts that all my kids eye up on the regular but that I am protecting until I feel that they appreciate how very cool I was/am (so I’ll be buried in them probably)
I think probably the longest standing but cheapest item that I have is an George by Asda scoop neck black fine knot jumper. It’s never faded, bobbled and it’s just the right length for a skirt or laying over a shirt. I’ll be sad when that finally gives up, it’s hard to find a good basic jumper in this world of strange cropping and asymmetric cuts

PineappleDanish · 29/01/2020 22:05

I have a lightweight chiffony bias cut skirt, black with tiny spots, bought in the sales in Oasis in Swindon in about 1998 for £8. I got a camel coloured jumper at the same time but it's long gone.

ConcentricCircles · 29/01/2020 22:06

I have 2 pairs of oxford bags and 2 pairs of platform shoes +1 pair of platform boots from the 70's. Also, a leather belt bought from the C&A 1973-4. It has a desert scene with cacti and a rising sun embossed along its length . Can't remember bags/shoes prices, but the belt was £2.00.
From the 90's a boxy jacket from Orvis. Plus a felted waistcoat with shisha mirrors from Anokhi, and finally a woollen waistcoat with a purple felted collar from Jules.

Love them all!

ConcentricCircles · 29/01/2020 22:08

The belt was from the 'trendy' Gear Cellar section of the C&A - go me!

CalleighDoodle · 29/01/2020 22:10

Im currently wearing a hard rock cafe sweater my dad bought me in 1993.

Khione · 29/01/2020 22:11

@justasking111 probably not - but didn't want to use the word 'old' ... although googling suggests anything older than 20 years can be called vintage, so maybe many of these favourite oldies do qualify

@TheQueenBeyondTheWall thank you, married 21 years and haven't killed each other yet!

Khione · 29/01/2020 22:12

I love some of these pieces

Just today I wore a Dorothy Perkins cardigan that I bought for my first job in autumn 1998. That's probably the oldest thing in my wardrobe that I've owned since new. There are a few bits that were my mums in the 1960s and 70s but I don't wear them regularly.

LookToTreblesGoingTreblesGone · 29/01/2020 22:15

I still wear a full length navy wool coat that I bought from Richard Shops in the 1980's.
Richard Shops....remember them?!!
