What 'vintage' clothes do you have?

As in not expensive pieces but things from Primark - and even C&A, New Look etc, that you paid peanuts for and have lasted forever.

I got rid of some old C&A stuff last year when I had a clear out but I have 2 towelling, knee length, hooded robes bought in Sheffield in the latish 90s. One blue, one white. The white one stays in my guest room (and my sister uses it half a dozen times a year) but I have used the blue one daily every spring and autumn for over 20 years now. It's a bit faded but still perfectly serviceable. Also random PJs over the last 20 years that I still wear but nothing else as old that is still in regular use.

Can you beat it? Grin

Kick myself for getting rid of my Ossie Clark evening dress. I have a coat from 1930s vintage, very heavy so do not wear in our climate car to bar lol. Also have a velvet cape from the same era, fancy dress I suppose. I went to an 80s themed party so out came my favourite ever dress.

I've got a white linen skirt with a drawstring waist that I bought in Warehouse around 1994/1995. It was originally a maxi and a few years later I had it shortened to a midi. I wear it every summer and it still looks good.

I've got a 1930's clutch bag that DH bought me at an antique fair, and last year I bought a C&A brown fur coat in our local charity shop. I would say it's probably 80's/90's.

I have a black 3/4 sleeve cardigan that I bought from Bay Trading when I was in the sixth form at school. It's still going strong and I'm nearly 40 now!

I also still wear a black broderie mini dress that I bought in my early 20s. It's a classic style.

Loads of vintage items bought from vintage shops up to 80s/90s, 50s my favourite, I think 20yrs old minimum to be vintage, 2001 seems like yesterday!! And primark could never be vintage, or maybe I’m just too old. C&a, yes. The days of proper vintage clothes are kind of over, you used to find them in charity shops but not so often now.

I have a lovely wool cardigan,, longer length with zig zags in muted purple, burgundy and forest green that run lengthwise so quite flattering that I bought for my mum. She died 22 years ago.
My daughter wears a jacket I bought in the early 80s.
They're probably the oldest things, but a lot of my clothing is from 20-30 years ago. My favourites are 4 rugby shirts my then boyfriend bought for Christmas circa probably 1990 - he bought all 4 colourways as he could decide which I'd like best. They're a heavy duty cotton, and were from Debenhams and I wear them every winter without fail every week, so they've had a LOT of wear.

Leather jacket not biker just zipped from 2001, I think the make is Crombies - a men’s tailors but they dabbled in womenswear at that time and had a shop in Glasgow.

Also a 20 year old Ghost dress but it doesn’t currently fit although I still take the same size in Ghost due to vanity sizing.

I have kept most of the dresses I wore to friends weddings which were all 10-15 years ago.

I have a pair of viscose trousers from Next which are only 8 years old so probably not old enough for this thread, but I wear them all the time and they still look new.

A ‘Budweiser World Cup 94’ freebie promo t-shirt.

Cost : £0.00. 26 years old & still in use. It’s older than some of my colleagues!Grin

I hardly have any contemporary clothes and very little that dates from the last two decades. I’d say 80% of my clothes are from the late forties to about 1963. I bought up boxes and boxes, full of ‘dead stock’, i.e. never worn clothes, including lingerie, hosiery, jeans, tops, bathing suits, even some Lilli Ann suits and coats (the holy grail of vintage wear), knitwear and shoes. The rest of my clothes and lingerie I have sewn from original mid-century sewing patterns, using original fabric. This makes my life super easy because I don’t worry about changing fashion trends and know what suits me. I’ve dressed this way since I was a teenager. It’s very easy to adapt it for professional workwear too.

I have a 24 year old leather jacket bought from River Island which my daughter borrows sometimes: it’s 12 years older than her. She also borrows my 12 year old denim jacket (George at Asda).
I also have a 24 year old pencil skirt (topshop) and a pair of wide legged work trousers (next) that are 18 years old.

Howmanysleepsnow · 30/01/2020 15:51

Oh, and white linen trousers and a floral maxi dress from 1997 (miss selfridge)

tinselvestsparklepants · 30/01/2020 16:54

My slip/petticoat was my grandma's and dates from the 1950s. I find it quite weird how well it fits (it's very fitted). I also have some of my Nan's clothes from the 1960s - I wore a dress she wore to my parents' wedding to a friend's wedding. You'd never know it was older than me.

A short ivory jacquard satin dressing gown my big sister bought for me in - gulp - Christmas 1986.
