Boy wanted for breakfast

Does anyone remember a poster making set in the 80's that had this as the example of a good poster to make? With a picture on the front of two model like children sat across the table from each other as if they were on a date?

I had this and thought it would be a great idea to replicate it. I then stuck it up on lampposts near my house in a very naice area. Luckily there were no replies as I had kindly included our phone number Shock

But seriously. What were the manufacturers thinking and can anyone remember it?

What's that now?

[Walks away, confused]

Personally I prefer girls for breakfast, sometimes poached, sometimes fried.

Other than that I have absolutely no clue wtf you're taking about Confused

To explain again.

When I was a child I was given a poster making set containing stencils, paints etc. On the front of this set was a picture of an "example poster" which was what the manufacturers obviously thought was something an 8 year old girl might make.

This poster just said "Boy wanted for breakfast" and the illustration on the poster box was of 2 children sitting at a table as if on a date.

I liked the idea of getting a boy to come to my house for breakfast so I copied the poster with the stencils provided , put my number on it and stuck it on lamp posts where I lived. Luckily no one responded.

So I was wondering if anyone else had the dubious poster making set themselves in the 80's and was reflecting on what the manufacturer was thinking with their "example poster"

Did you ask kids to come round to replicate this as a child, or now as a grown up?

Witchofzog · 29/01/2020 16:46

As a child not as an adult. Shock I made this poster when I was about 8. I don't know what the manufacturer was thinking. Surely I wasn't the only child to copy the example provided?

I dunno about this (I was born in 1988) but this sounds hilarious. Grin

I remember a stencil set called Mix n Match where you stencilled the model then chose clothes/accessories to stencil over it.

I also have Rotadraws from the 80’s.

I don’t recall yours though.

Boy Wanted for a Breakfast sounds brilliant! I really, really hope someone else remembers it. And has it in their loft. 🤞🏽

Witchofzog · 29/01/2020 20:46

I have googled it but to no avail. The box was very similar to what you would get for a board game. I was born in 1977 so it would have been 1985 1986 ish . The 80's were a strange era!

This is a strange thread as well!

That's it, I'm giving up tramadol.

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 29/01/2020 21:44

Are you sure you didn't dream it?
Not that I don't believe you but I'm surprised there's no online references at all

Witchofzog · 29/01/2020 21:53

Honestly I definitely didn't dream it. I remember after I had put the posters up being really worried that a boy would actually turn up for breakfast or would call the house and what my parents would say

SpeedofaSloth · 29/01/2020 22:04

Witchofzog · 29/01/2020 22:16

I was born in '82, so probably wasn't old enough. But it sounds hilarious and I believe you, it probably existed, what I do remember from that time is a helluva lot of weirdness. Hope you find an answer. And thank god no one responded to the poster!

Witchofzog · 30/01/2020 09:52

@seagullonthewind Thank you. I think all those sceptics on here must not have been around in the 80's. There was a lot of weirdness then that would not be acceptable now
